Hey guys, my name is David D'Amusio and I did a cover of Richard Marx's [G] song
Hazard with my friend Carlo.
I'm going to teach you how to play the song now on
acoustic guitar exactly the same way that Richard Marx plays [Ab] it.
So you're
going to [Bb] play E minor and that's the verses and [E] intro is [G] E minor and D.
[Abm] So in order to play this the same way Richard [Bb] Marx does, you need to know these
these two chords.
When you [Ab] play your C and B [C] chords, usually, [Ab] except for in the
bridge in the song, he plays the C [G] chord, he plays a normal C chord, but usually
[Gm] you play a C [C] chord [F] with a G in the bass, which [Bb] is C chord, normal C chord, [Ab] then
instead you play the C note, which is [C] third fret A string with your pinky, and
the G note, which is third fret E string with your [G] index finger.
So it has a
little [C] more of a full sound, it sounds like this.
That's how you play the C.
[Bb] You play a G
exactly the same way two frets down.
So one, two, [D] I don't know if that's [Bb] considered two or
three frets, [G] but either way you should know.
[Abm] It's where your [Bb] pinky should be
on the B note, which is the fifth [Ebm] fret [D] A string.
[E] [D] That's how you play the [Ab] D.
So you're going to play [Em] E.
[Bb] [E]
This is E minor.
[B] [Ab] It goes to D.
[D] [F] And then there's a hammer-on with [G] your middle finger at the [Gm] fourth fret
[Am] E string.
[D] So he does [Bb] that very, very clearly.
[D]
[E] E minor.
[B] [Em] [D] D.
This is that [A] hammer-on.
[Bb] And then it goes to A, but [Ab] instead of playing a regular [E] A, you're going to play an A and leave your both E and [Gb] D strings open.
[E]
[D] [G]
[Fm] [E]
[Ab] So that's it.
That's the whole verse.
Again, I'm just going to play the verse through exactly the way, and then you can just [Bb] put that over the first and second verse.
[Abm] [C] I'll sing it for you so you kind of know where it happens.
[E] This is E minor.
[D] [E]
And then this is [C] just all down strokes, so [Ab] it's really easy.
Now the [Bb] chorus is B, C, [A] but it's going to play the C [Cm] where you played the G and the B.
I just taught you.
[C] And then to [G] G.
And then Richard [Ab] plays the G chord, his pinky, at [G] the D [A] note E string third [Ab] fret, and [Eb] his ring finger [G] at the G [Ab] note third fret E string.
[G] So it's like this.
[Ab] And he does that so that he can hammer-on with these two fingers [Db] right here.
So it's going to hammer [Ab]-on as if you're playing a C [G] chord.
[Db] And that's [Bb] second fret D string and first fret B [G] string.
So.
[C]
That's on C.
[G]
Hammer-on.
Back to [C] C.
[Ab] E minor, but it starts with the E minor seventh, [Em] so you play E minor, [Ab] and then you play with [B] your [Bb] ring finger the third fret B string.
[Bm] And now regular E minor, so it goes E minor seventh to E minor.
[Em] And then back [C] to C.
Back to the E minor seventh.
[Em] Back to E minor.
Back to E minor.
[Bb] E minor seventh always goes to E minor.
[Em] E minor seventh to E minor.
[E] [Bb] [C]
Back to E minor.
[E]
[Em] [Gm] Now, the [Ab] bridge is more kind of normal chords.
[Eb] It's the same chords pretty much, it's just that he [Abm] plays [F] more normal versions [Abm] of them.
So a standard [D] D.
[Bb] To [C] C.
[Ab] To E [Em] minor.
Back [D] to D.
[A] And then stay [D] on D.
[C]
[Bb] Back to E minor.
[Em] [C] And then C.
[D] D.
[A] Back to E [Em] minor.
[Ab]

[G] So it's like this.
[Ab] And he does that so that he can hammer-on with these two fingers [Db] right here.
So it's going to hammer [Ab]-on as if you're playing a C [G] chord. _ _
_ _ [Db] And that's [Bb] second fret D string and first fret B [G] string.
So.
[C] _ _
_ _ That's on C.
[G] _ _ _
_ Hammer-on. _ _ _
Back to [C] C. _ _ _ _ _ _
[Ab] E minor, but it starts with the E minor seventh, [Em] so you play E minor, [Ab] and then you play with [B] your [Bb] ring finger the third fret B string. _

_ _ _ _ _ Back to the E minor seventh.
[Em] _ Back to E minor.
Back to E minor.
[Bb] E minor seventh always goes to E minor.
[Em] E minor seventh to E minor.
_ _ _ [E] _ _ [Bb] _ _ [C] _
Back to E minor.
[E] _ _ _ _
_ [Em] _ _ [Gm] Now, the [Ab] bridge is more kind of normal chords.
[Eb] It's the same chords pretty much, it's just that he [Abm] plays [F] more normal versions [Abm] of them.
So a standard [D] D. _
_ _ [Bb] _ To [C] C. _ _
[Ab] To E [Em] minor.
_ Back [D] to D. _
[A] And then stay [D] on D.
_ _ _ [C] _ _
[Bb] Back to E minor.
[Em] _ [C] And then C. _
_ [D] D. _ _ _ _ _
[A] Back to E [Em] minor.
_ _ _ [Ab] _ _
