Tonight, on the national scene, an intimate visit with Canadian singer Chantal Kravjazic.
Her life now is very different from what it was just a few years ago.
She talked to the CBC's Barbara Brunzel about what those changes mean to her life and work.
[F#] [A#] There we go.
[F#] These days, the lyrics to Chantal Kravjazic's life go something like this.
[F] I'm a mom.
That's what I am.
I'm a mom and I'm a [D#m] Let's do
[D] Mostly I'm a mom.
I've just had two babies in a row.
That's shy head.

With her two-year-old son Rowan under her feet and her nine-month-old boy Luca John in her arms,
it's easy to see that motherhood has become the singer-songwriter's top priority.
But one glimpse at the studio in her Los Angeles home, and you know her passion for music, isn't far behind.
Her rock star husband, Rain Mada, of Our Lady Peace, agrees.
This is just like the best room in the house.
So this is it.
I mean, we spend, you know, 16 to 18 hours a day in this room making music every day.
[C]
And yet, it's been [Dm] four years since Chantal [F] Kravjazic released her last [G] album, What If It All [C] Means Something.
[B] Chantal Kravjazic.
Almost six since she walked away with a couple of Juno Awards for her sophomore effort, Color Moving Still.
And [D] a grand total of ten [F#] years since the classically trained pianist from Winnipeg
first burst on the [D] international pop scene with Under the Rocks and Stones.
[G]
[D] [G] But just because Kravjazic has managed to [B] evade the spotlight doesn't mean the 32-year-old hasn't been working.
Becoming a mother, I think, turned me a little bit more into a hard worker.
I mean, I have dreams and aspirations for my children, for a great education,
and [G#m] I want to be able to provide for my kids.
So I make some decisions a little differently.
I'm not as selfish in my artistic choices and so on.
And I pound the pavement [D#] a bit more.
Okay, rule number [F] one.
Each sister [C] is going to keep the pants.
That means writing songs for movies and television as well as other artists.
In the past few years, Kravjazic has co-written hits for the likes of Kelly Clarkson,
[G] Avril Lavigne,
[Gm] and Gwen [F] Stefani.
[Cm] You know, it's funny.
The first time I really paid attention to that was
[E]
Gwen Stefani's video for Rich Girl was on MTV and I walked in the room
and Rowan, the first thing he ever sang was
I mean, it didn't sound like that, but he was singing that.
And that's one of the parts that I wrote for the song.
So that was just like, oh my gosh, that's too weird.
You know, Gwen is singing my song or something I've written on
and then my son is singing the part.
It was just weird.
It was cute.
It was quite rewarding for a moment.
Well, yeah, we just have a little play area set up there.
But with the rewards also come risks.
Kravjazic's home in L.A. has become her sanctuary.
A place to write and raise her family.
She says another home in Toronto keeps her connected to her Canadian roots.
But what is keeping the singer connected to her fans?
Okay, come on, Pia.
Okay, let's go, guys.
In the pool.
Let's go.
Like any other stay-at-home mom, the longer Kravjazic stays behind the scenes,
the greater the chances she'll be forgotten.
Let's go.
In.
Hi, Mom.
It's just one of the reasons the songstress has agreed to become a spokesperson for Garnier Nutrisse.
I use new Garnier Nutrisse cream.
She says Hawking Hair Color is more closely related to making music than people might think.
It's so rich and so radiant.
It's gorgeous.
The music business is not the same place that it was.
And it's really a privilege to be able to have this kind of an endorsement or a sponsorship or whatever.
I'm probably going to be in the marketplace with probably my song in the commercial
more times in six months with them than [D] I would have my whole career.
And the timing couldn't be better.
Kravjazic [G] is putting [A] the finishing touches on a new album.
[D] [G] It's a project written and recorded at home with her babies by her side.
Her husband, who [A] is a co-writer and producer on the album,
says it's helped to draw out a new side of the singer.
I [F#m] think once you have children, you find [A#m] yourself definitely splitting time,
even creatively, our recording time even.
It's like we'll start a vocal and all of a sudden Rowan is screaming to come in the studio.
So all those things factor in to where when you're making the music and when you're making a record,
[B] it takes a little of the importance and it's not as big of a deal anymore.
Where when it's the record and the music business and your album is your life,
you almost put too much pressure on it.
Now it's just like it's just about having fun and enjoying the creative process.
What's in your pockets?
It's an arrangement Chantal Kravjazic likes so much,
she plans to take her entire family on tour after the release of her new album this summer.
Preschool will be road school.
Twenty years from now, [C#] my babies might just start understanding or listening to my music
and we would want them to have just so much respect for what we were doing.
And so it kind of keeps my standards really high.
Just another ordinary mom with extraordinary goals.
