in this lesson we're going to look at Ragtime Annie.
This is a great traditional
tune out of the key of D.
It's a good beginner tune and this is the basic melody for it.
So it'll be good if you're just getting into fiddling.
It's a good one to start on and
then you can add the advanced parts in later.
So here we go.
Key of D, we're going to start
off with a couple of saw strokes on a D chord.
So third finger on your A string, second finger
on your D string and you can slide your second in.
[C#]
[D] So it's down, up, down, up, down, up,
down is the pattern.
[Bm]
[C] And then you're into the song.
One more [D] time.
[Bm] Okay?
So that's the
beginning of the melody.
It starts off with a couple of pick up notes on the D string.
[F#] [G#] Okay?
And that's your down beat right there, that second finger.
F sharp note.
[F#m]
[D]
Okay?
A
couple of things here.
I'll show you some slurs for that in a minute which are a little
more advanced but not too bad.
One thing I would point out is when you go up to that
second finger, [Bm]
keep it down and make sure it's not touching your A string and you're
going to rock back and forth and that way you don't have to put your second finger back
down to catch that note because you're going to go back to it a bunch of times.
So we're
going [F#m] to rock between [B] to [N] up to a one, first finger, B note on your A string and [F#m] [Bm] then back
over to the two on the D.
[F#m] [Bm]
[F#m] [Bm] [D] [G#] Okay?
And you're alternating between a B note and an A note
on your A string.
So first finger, open.
First finger, open.
[E] [F#m]
[D] [F#] Okay?
There's the first phrase.
[C#m] [F#m]
[Bm] [A] Okay, so you get out of that second one a little bit different.
It starts the same but
you end up on a, so A and then, so it's an open A and then first finger on your D string
and then back up to a high two on your A.
[C#m]
[C] And the second [G] phrase is, [F#m]
[Bm] [A] [C#m]
[C] let's put [D] those
together.
[F#m]
[B] [F#m] [Bm]
[D] [F#m]
[A] [C#m] [G] Okay?
One thing you can do when you get comfortable with the notes is put
some slurs in there.
Okay?
[F#m]
[B] [F#m] [Bm] [D]
Okay, in this lesson we're going to look at an advanced melody
for Ragtime Annie, Kia Dee.
We can start it out the same way with those saws or we can
start it out with some chops.
So saws would beoro just chops. Okay? So let me play the first part and we'll break down some extra stuff in it. Here we go. [F#m] [D]
[A] [B]
[D]
[A]
[D]
Okay? So a couple of things. I did some double stops. [A] The first one comes right there. [G#] So it's down bow on the A [A] string. Okay? And rock that up bow. Then slide your second finger up. Okay, now switch over and start droning on your E string. [E] Okay? [F#] I slid my two right there and the melody is basically [Bm] [G] [F#] [B]
[Bm]
