Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here with Marty Music.
Gonna bring the song Breathe by Pink Floyd.
The main part's really easy.
The other section, you know, it's not hard, but I think you'll enjoy challenging yourself.
So anyway, let's dig in and check this lesson out.
All right, we start with two really easy chords, but really cool Pink Floyd moody sounding chords.
The first is E minor 7, and so if I put my middle finger on the second fret of the A
string and strum the whole guitar, that's an E minor 7.
Then I just move my middle finger over to the second fret of the D, and I grab the second
[G#] fret of the B string, and now that's [A] A7.
[Em]
Breathe, breathe [A] in the air.
[Em]
[G]
[A]
I'm gonna show you a few [D#] things about that.
One, let's start with the rhythm pattern.
[F]
[D#] Down, down, down, up, up, down, up, down, [F]
up, down, down, down, up, up, down, down,
[G] down, down, up, up.
[Em]
[A]
[Em]
[A]
[Em] So on that E minor 7, you can add second fret, open E, and that's called E minor 9, and that's
in there sometimes.
[G]
[Em]
You [G] know, more on the slide thing, but you get that in there.
[A] [G] [Em] And on the A7, you can add third fret on the B string for this A7sus4 [A] sound.
[Em] [G]

[A]
[Em] [G]
[Em] [A]
[Em] [C]
[Em] [Bm]
[F]
[G] [Fm] [C] [Em]
[C] So the next section, you take a C chord, but make it C major 7, you just take your index finger off.
Same rhythm pattern, then a B minor bar chord, so you're barring that second fret, A minor [Bm] looking shape.
Then an [Cm] F chord, and I'm playing it [F] 3, 2, 1, and then I'm gonna play it on the A7sus4
B3, [C] 2, 1, with the open high E in [F] there, [E] so that would actually be called F major [F] 7.
And then the next chord's G, [G] so in that little demo I just slid it up, but any way you can
play a G, you can play the full bar chord, or you can play a regular G chord.
[Dm] And then you get to this little jazzy little set of chords, two chords, [C]
but really all
[A#] you're doing is changing one finger out.
So the first chord's D7 sharp 9, also known as the D Hendrix chord, so it's [F#] 5, [D] 4, 5, and
then 6 on the B.
[F#]
[D#] And then when that pinky comes off, I'm letting my index grab [Dm] that fourth fret of the B string
while I'm still holding that chord.
So it looks like this,
[D] and then I pinky off, index rolls over.
[C] And then the [B] trick of that is that your ring finger doesn't [D] block the B string, [C]
[D#] so you
can hear that [F] note.
[C] [Dm] [C]
Might take you a little practice if you've never done it [Dm] before.
[C]
Good to have though.
Alright, so the whole B section, C major 7 to B [G] minor, [Bm]
F major [F] 7, and then G, [G] [Fm] [G#] Hendrix,
flat [D] 9, so this is called D7 sharp 9, and that note by the way is the 9.
When you play this, [C] now it's called D7 flat 9.
So the natural 9 is that fifth fret, which we're not playing at all, we're playing a
sharp 9, a flat 9 within the [D] D7 chord.
[Dm] [C] [Em]
Here we go.
[A] [G]
[Bm] [Em]
[A] Here we go, the other section, [C] C major 7, B [Bm] minor, F [Em] major [F] 7, G, [E]
[G] [Fm] Hendrix, [E] flat [G]
