Start Jamming...
We are hot here on Lightning 100.
We have the old-timey band with a rock attitude, Old Crow Medicine show in the studios.
You guys live here in Nashville, Tennessee.
How long have you been in Nashville now?
I guess it was about six or eight years, somewhere in there.
Six or eight years.
Now, if I'm listening to you guys here, I wouldn't think that you actually met each other in New York City, but that is true, right?
No, I mean, New York's a big place.
New York's a big place?
We didn't meet in New York City, but we met in another part of [Db] New York State, about seven hours away from New York City.
Okay.
Out where all the rednecks live.
Out where all the rednecks of New York.
So, drop the city for sure.
Now, you guys went traveling.
You're in North Carolina.
Tell me this story [Gm] now, because you're playing out in front of a pharmacy, I [E] believe.
You met [Am] a person who had a big effect on your lives and your [Eb] career.
Yeah, Boone Drug [Bb] in Boone, North Carolina.
It's a [Ab] pharmacy, a lunch counter, a convenience [E] store, grocery.
Sort of an old-fashioned general store [B] in a small mountain [Gm] town there in North Carolina.
But anyway, yeah, we used to [N] live around there and we used to busk out on the street in front of Boone Drug just about every day.
I'd take my fiddle down there and one of the guys or two or [G] three of us would go down there trying to pay the rent.
But one day, Doc Watson came by and liked what he heard [Bb]
and [N] booked us on Merle Fest, the Merle Watson Festival there in North Carolina.
So, yeah, that's basically that [Bb] story [B] in a nutshell.
[E] Did that relationship [B] lead to you meeting David Rawlings and Killing Welsh and them?
Not directly, no.
[C] You met Sally Williams at Merle Fest.
Yeah, [Bb] we met Sally Williams at Merle Fest, which got us to Nashville.
I mean, essentially, we kind of got kicked out of Merle Fest because we were drinking corn liquor.
[Em] [B]
[Db] So, yeah, I mean, [B] one thing led to another.
So, I think we ended [Ab] up moving to Nashville a few months later.
These guys are a lot of fun.
It's Old Crow Medicine Show hanging out with us here in our nice and warm studio.
I'm glad you guys brought your summertime [C] clothes here.
I'm glad I wore [G] this parka.
Hey, let's play a little number for them out there, Radio Land, Lunch Time Nashville.
Yeah, I'm getting kind of hungry.
Oh, I am too, boys.
Let's step on out and get a little bit of that barbecue [Gb] up here in North Nashville, a little bit of that dog [C] meat.
Old Crow [Bb] Medicine Show on Lightning 100.
[A]
[D]
[A]
[E] Can you sit in Memphis town?
I can solve [D] now.
Come on in Mary's kitchen.
If you want your [A] sausage brown, she got a sign on her porch.
A pasta for sale in a little three round shotgun.
And I'm [D] sweet, sour, thick, old man.
[A] So, I can hide some like it.
So, I can anyway.
[E] So, can you sit in Memphis town?
I can solve now.
[D] Come on in Mary's kitchen.
If you want your [A] sausage brown.
[E]
[A]
[E]
[D]
[A]
Fucking out of charcoal.
So, something was real.
When it comes to what you want to hold, neighborhoods got near.
[D] One taste and you'll be hooked like nothing else you know.
[A] Find yourself on a kitchen floor, hoping she grows you long.
[E] Can you sit in Memphis town?
I can solve now.
[Db] [D] Come on in Mary's kitchen.
If you want your [A] sausage brown.
[E] Lightning 100 with Old Crow Medicine Show, Mary's Kitchen from their latest effort, [B] Tennessee Pusher.
And I'm not sure if we're getting three or four songs out of you guys.
Is that [E] what we
Well, that's what we have prepared.
That's what we have prepared.
[Gb] With the few minutes that we have left in the show, I just wanted to again announce to the people that are listening out there.
We got a hot show.
Two nights at the Ryman Auditorium with some of the best [Bb] music in the Volunteer State.
We've got the Carolina Chocolate Drops who are bringing that old time string [Ab] band style in out of North Carolina to be with you this weekend.
And it's really going to be a big time.
So there's a few tickets left for Thursday.
You all ought to come [Eb] out and come rock it out with us at the Ryman.
Well, it was a [C] pleasure having you here in the studio this afternoon guys.
