Neil Young Inducts the Everly Brothers into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame chords
Start Jamming...
[F#] [N] When I was about 15 or maybe 12, I started playing in a band in school.
And we got [G#m] together in my garage, [G] four guys with some beat up pieces of equipment, but
it didn't work too good.
[N] And we started playing and we did instrumentals
for about a year or so.
And then I got off enough nerve [G] to start singing.
Some [N] people said, maybe I should have started then.
Anyway, one of the other guys in the band started singing with me.
And we were trying to get that sound that we heard and loved so much.
The harmony that the Everly Brothers put out in the very beginning on Cadence Records.
[E] We never did get it, but [C] we worked real hard at it.
We used to listen to [N] the records over and over again and just try and try.
I'd sing one part by myself and then he'd sing the other part by himself.
We'd try to sing together and then we'd both throw each other off.
It really worked.
But years later I found myself in Los Angeles
and we were putting together a band.
Stills and puree, we were working on the vocals.
It was just like the same thing over again, trying to get that sound.
Still couldn't get it.
[G#] [B] But [Dm] it's just one of those things that it's such a great honor for me to be up here tonight with [D] all you people.
[N] It's a great moment for me and I'm so proud to introduce you [D] to the Everly Brothers.
[Gm] [D#] [F#]
[F#] [A] [F#] [G#m]
[F#] Rock and Roll!
[B] [F#] Thank [G] [C#m]
[G] God they gave us two, we don't have to fight over it, do we?
That's true.
[D#] In the old days they'd always give you one award.
Yeah, we'd have to saw them in half.
We really appreciate being in such [C] fine company.
It's really grand that Rock and Roll has reached this point.
I think it speaks well of all of us.
We made good choices when we were real young.
Thank you all for honoring us.
[C#] Thank you.
[N] Thank you.
I'd like to thank Amit and Jan for starting this actually.
It's kind of a hats off to Rock and Roll which has changed all of our lives.
The way we dress, the way we look, the way we think, the way we interact amongst each other.
I think it's been a good thing.
Rock and Roll's been good to us.
I hope it's been good to you.
Thank you.
Thank you very much Chris.
