[A]
Neil Young's Heart of Gold is probably the most recognizable guitar and harmonica song ever recorded.
I covered the guitar part and we jammed through it in an earlier video.
So in this video, I just wanted to go over the harmonica part as it was recorded on the Harvest album.
The song is in the key of G, so I'll be using a G harmonica for this.
[Bm]
[G] So let's go through the first harmonica solo.
Go something like this.
[D]
[G]
Okay, so the first line is blow four, blow five, blow six.
Draw five, blow five, draw four, blow four, blow three.
[D]
Okay, second line is blow six, blow seven, draw six, blow six, draw six, blow six, blow five.
[G] Okay, third line is blow four, blow four, blow four, blow six, five times, draw five, blow five, blow four.
[G] Okay, so that's the first solo.
Second solo goes something like this.
[D]
Okay, second solo.
First line goes blow four, blow six, draw five, blow five,
draw five, blow five, blow four.
[G]
Second line, blow six, blow seven, draw six, blow six, draw six, blow six, draw six, blow six, blow five.
[D]
[Bm] Okay, third line of the second solo.
Blow seven, blow seven, blow six, blow six, blow five, blow five,
blow four, like four times, [D] then draw four, blow four, draw four, blow five, blow five, draw four,
blow four.
[G] [A] [G]
Okay, so that's the second solo.
So here's the third solo.
Something like this.
[D]
[Bm]
[D] [G]
[D] [Bm] [D] Okay, first line of the third solo.
Blow six, blow six, blow seven.
Draw six, blow six, blow seven, draw six, blow six, draw six, draw six, blow six, blow five.
[Bm] Second line, blow five, blow five, blow five, draw five, blow five, draw four, blow four, draw four, blow four,
draw four, blow five, blow five, draw four, blow four.
[G] [D] [G]
Okay, third line of the third solo.
Blow seven, draw six, blow six, blow seven, [N] draw six, blow six, draw six, draw six, blow six, blow five.
[D]
[Bm] Okay, there's the three solos in the key of G with the G harmonica.
So I've given you the draws and the blow notes for the three solos in Neil Young's Heart of Gold on the G harmonica.
So when Neil's playing that, it's not always clean, right?
Sometimes [A] he's blowing multiple notes or drawing on multiple notes.
What I've tried to do is just give you the individual single note blow and draws.
So have a listen to what he's doing and try to decipher when he's playing a chord and when not and add that to your
own play.
Okay?
See you in the next video.
