Modern Blues Licks - #1 Robben Ford Chevrolet - Guitar Lesson - Corey Congilio chords
Start Jamming...
Hey there, I'm Cory Congelio and welcome to the first installment of my True Fire YouTube blog
We're going to be focusing on modern blues licks
With modern blues licks comes modern blues players and the first one we're going to focus on is Robin Ford
I got this lick from a tune that he plays called Chevrolet off the handful blues album.
It's great funky tune awesome record
You should pick it up
And we're going to notice how these players have taken the blues and continued to take blues playing to the next level
Let's hear the track.
I'll play the lick.
We'll break it down.
We'll see how it goes from there
[Bb]
[Cm] [Bb]
[G]
[B] There's [D]
[Gm]
some great little things going on here that can change your normal pentatonic playing for instance if you're wearing G minor pentatonic
And that's how you know we'd normally practice our scale
But what we're gonna do is manipulate it a little bit courtesy of Robin.
We're gonna bend here on [G] the 18th fret
and we're gonna bend like we're going to a G and then play the G note on the first string and
Then [Gm] what we do after that
Do what I call rolling your finger down to that second string D note
And what he's gonna do is create a little system of walking down this scale
[G]
It's a really cool way to approach any kind of panic pentatonic scale
[Bb]
[Dm] Doesn't [Gm] sound so much like this
Pretty [A] [G] cool, so bend up to the first string
roll down
[Gb] Grab the F on the second string [Bb] 18th
[F] Then [C] I use my second finger to [Bb] grab the C note here on the 17th fret
Back to the D roll again to the B flat
[Dm] [F]
[G] [Fm] [Bb] [Eb] [Bb]
And [G] a good old sort of pull off lick
[A] [Bb] Pulling from the G to the F to the D
[A] [Gm] Then [G] a great little hammer-on double stop chord riff here where we incorporate the major third
[Bb] Back
[Bm] to the hammer-on [Dm] or pull off
[Gm]
We're [G] [F] gonna [C] slide from the 17th
15th [Gm]
finish it up
[Eb] I've done that a bunch
[G] So the whole lick in its [Bb] entirety slowly
Notice
[G] [F] [Bb] [Cm] [N]
how it's a swung rhythm
Dut-dut-dut-dut-dut-dut-dut-dut-dut-dut so you want to make your picking sort of follow suit
[Gm] Cool.
[Eb]
Got it.
Let's try it again with the track
One two
[B]
[Gm] Yeah,
[Bb] [G] one two [Gm] three
One two
Try it down the down an octave it'll work great
Good [Dm]
[Gm] stuff
Very Robin Ford-esque last time
[G] [Cm] [F]
[C] Cool, so I hope you dug that it's a great lick super funky
You can put it to use right away any key very movable
and I think
This is a good start to where you know
we want to go with our modern blues players Robin Ford's one of the best out there playing the blues for real and
It's it's great to sift through all this good stuff and and talk about it here.
So um, stay tuned more licks to come and
