Start Jamming...
[Dm] I didn't know if they said it was Marty's jam.
I thought, this [N] made it nice, should I wear my jammies?
My Porter suit?
I love your suit.
Well, thank you.
I know you always wear those nudie suits, the Porter that we used to wear.
We try to, we want to think we look like Porter and Hank Williams,
but I think we look more like Hank Snow and Jimmy Kimmel.
Are we Jimmy's?
I think you are.
Hey, I got a question.
People have been asking, they're so excited that you're here.
[C]
Well, thank you.
[Gb] Well, I don't, well [D] I'm here all the time.
I'm always doing something [Gm] around town,
but I know I haven't done a concert here in a long time.
[Gb] Last time I actually, I think I did a concert was right here in the Romney.
[Cm]
Well, [D] alright.
Thank you.
Got [Bb] a question that [E] came from a [C] lady today.
I love this time of the year, you mentioned the fans, I love [Ab] hanging out with the fans.
[C] Oh, well, you [Gb] should.
Well, thank you.
You kept us eating all these years.
That's [Cm] right, thank you.
I'm a little over-hyped.
[D] That's true.
But [N] this one lady hit me with a question today.
She said, didn't you and Dolly Parton used to be married back in the 80s?
Long, [D] [N]
because we always fall over the hair braids.
He's just
Well, I don't think we have, but the 80s were a little foggy for me, but I don't know if that ever really happened.
Yeah, it was fun.
That's before Connie though, [F] that's before Connie.
Well, I'd rather [Eb] stay with Connie and Carl, but I'll tell you [F] one thing that [D] I know.
[Ab] If [Gm] we had of been married, think of the divorce we could have had.
[N]
There ain't no doubt in my mind who'd have got the house.
You.
But anyway, it's a great honor to always work with you because honestly, we never dated, we never did anything, but I always thought we were like little soulmates.
Don't you think we're keyed together?
What was it you said you've known me since my hair [C] was down and your chest was flat?
[F] My hair was flat and it was over my [Ab] chest.
[N] Hey, can I tell them what Roger
No, Willie Nelson said about you.
I don't know what Willie Nelson [Fm] said about me, maybe you better tell them, [Eb] Marty Stewart.
Roger Miller, Roger [Bb] Miller, his turn to go into the Country Music [N] Hall of Fame.
And as I remember, it was Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam, Dolly Parton, Willie [Dm] Nelson and [G] Marty Stewart.
We were conducting Roger into the [Db] Hall of Fame.
And it was [D] time to rehearse the number that afternoon.
[A] And Dolly came out, you know, and did it in one [G] take like she always does and just make the stage [Bb] look so pretty and went [Gb] off.
And when she left, [Dm] Dwight said, man, you [Cm] look beautiful.
And he [Db] said, you know, she's like an angel or something.
And here comes [Gm] Merle chiming in.
[B] Merle said, yeah, [Eb] a lot of people don't go past [N] her looks to know what a beautiful soul she has and how intelligent she is down in there.
And I said, yeah, I'll tell you what, she's one of the smartest human beings I've ever met.
When she'll make it, you see it her way [Ab] that she's usually right.
[Am] We were just keeping [N] praise on Dolly.
And Willie said, you think she's got any real little people?
That's what Willie said.
Just doing everything.
I have a new CD out, which is called Better Day.
I just might have to come back that way.
And I'm going on a tour this summer.
[Dm] We're going to be [Eb] around, traveling around, [G] starting in Nassau, I think it was.
[Gb] [N]
And then we're going to go, later on, we're going to go to Europe again and then to Australia.
You must be, you know, you never seem to walk up anybody's home [Ab] on planet Earth and not want to be, don't want to be a welcome guest.
Well, I'm not going to be a welcome [F] guest.
But you know, I just found out, somebody told me [Gb] when we [Gm] were walking in, you know, how we talk about the fanfare.
I thought this was [Bm] wonderful, I got to spend this day with you because they told [C] me that [N] 37 years ago today, I always loved you.
