Start Jamming...
I got that blasted shoe string out of my way there.
This man on the other guitar comes from Morrisville, North Carolina.
Brother Jack Lawrence is making business as well as he can be.
Let's hear it for him.
Some of my [F#] favorite memories are [B] people like John Hurt that I met back over the years
and the days of the folk festivals.
I learned some mighty good music from John and Mance [C#] Lipscomb and a lot of the other
people I listened to.
Merle and I [G] first met [F] John in 1964 at the Berkley Folk Festival.
I'd heard some of his records before then.
[C#] [D]
I like to do one of Brother John's tunes.
To me this is one of John's tunes.
Somebody [E] else claimed the copyright but I think John recorded it [F] before he was supposed
[D] to have written it.
So, you know how that goes.
John recorded [G] it in the late 20s, Jerry, on an early recording.
This fellow was supposed to have written it in [C] 1934.
[A] [D] I'm telling you my friend Jerry Riggs said this.
Anyhow, anyway, when me [G#m] and Jack play this we don't [G] attempt to copy the old [G#]-timers like John.
We just some kind of pick it like [B] me and Jack and hope you enjoy it.
It's called Make Me Down a Pallet on Your Floor, honey, because if I sleep on your [D#m] bed
I might get killed.

[G] Make me down a pallet [A] on your floor.
[D] Honey, won't you make it [G] down, make it soft and low.
Then maybe my little girl she [D] won't know.
[G] That [D] sleepy snow.
[G] I'm going up the country through that [A] sleepy snow.
[D] Yes, I'm going up the country [G]
through that sleepy snow.
Ain't no telling just how [D] far I'll go.
You [G] had my breakfast here and the dinner in [D] Tennessee.
[G] The dinner in [A] Tennessee.
I'm [D] going to give my breakfast [F#] here [G] and the dinner in Tennessee.
[D] Told you I was coming so you better listen.
[G] Make me down a pallet [E] on your floor.
[G] Make me down a pallet on your [A] floor.
[D] Honey, [F#] won't you make it [G] down, make it soft and low.

[D] Oh, sweet [F#] girl, I can't lay [G] down across your bed.
[D] Oh, my good woman, she might kill me dead.
[G] Don't you let my good girl [D] catch you.
[G] Hey, don't you let my good girl [A] catch you.
[D] If you think she may shoot [G] you, she'll not cut your stomach in.
Ain't no telling [D] what that girl might do.
[G] Make me down a pallet on [D] your floor.
[G] Make me down a pallet [A] on your floor.
Honey, [D] won't [F#] you make it down, [G] make it soft and low.
