Start Jamming...
[G#] Hi everybody, I'm Mike Reno from Loverboy.
Thank you for joining me on this flight
[Cm]
Loverboy [G#]
[F#] [E] [D#]
was actually the one of the first groups to send in videos
To MTV the first week that they were [B] up and running
[F#]
[D#m]
[B]
I'll [D] tell you what we became like like the number one [F#] MTV band [B] right off the bat
I mean, you know, it was a new format
So people really [G#] didn't know where it was gonna go but MTV just completely, you know
It took it turned us into visual superstars because you know, you play a concert every night
You play all year long [G#m] those people see yet.
They recognize you but as soon as they get you on television
I think it's a whole different [F#] ballgame the 80s to me were positive lyrics high energy fun party good times
Loverboy was one of the top 10 bands in the world
So anything you can imagine a bunch of 25 year olds doing just times it by 10 and [G] you see how great it was
[F#] And the 80s were great for us.
We really had we really enjoyed ourselves
Turn me loose.
I think is the biggest crowd favorite
[C#] [E]
the intro when they hear the keyboards [F#] and then the bass sneaks in and
Then it [B] just rolls and the [F#] big scream and everybody [A] sings the words turn me.
This is a great fun song
[F#m] Basically about [A] having enough you've had it with the boss
You've had it with [E] whatever and you [B] and you just want to go and have fun
And a lot of [F#m] our songs tend to kind [A] of generate around having [B] fun
[F#m]
We
[E]
[F] [F#] [D#] do between 80 and 100 shows here a lot of them are in the [F#m] summertime
We do a lot of state fairs County fairs
[N] all kinds of festivals
Really fun stuff and we usually play with a lot of different bands that we know REO speedwagon cheap trick
Survivor we're always out [B] there with groups that we know Kansas.
We play with a lot
[F#]
Festivals are fun.
You know people are just out there to have a good time giant stage good weather
It's always always fun for us
[E]
But [C#] [F#]
the singers that kind of really got [E] me influenced at the beginning where people like Stevie Wynwood Paul [F#] Rogers
[F#m] Grand funk Creedence Clearwater Led [Bm] Zeppelin
I mean I was into I was into those singers really sang and I [E] just you know
I had to sing a lot of those songs.
I was [F#] a singer.
I started young.
I started playing and doing shows
[F#m]
[C#]
[E] We
[Fm] [F#m] cut the second [G#m] album in five [G] weeks [B] get lucky [A] and
[G] It came out with a bang [A] and it actually [B] catapulted us into headlining stage right off the bat and not a lot of groups get to
Headline, you know right off the bat like that
[A#]
[G#] [A#]
[E] [G#]
[A#] [E] [Fm] [A#m]
[D#] [Fm] [A#]
[F#]
[A#] watching
Working for the weekend is an anthem a lot of [Gm] radio stations even now [D#] this is like 20 years later
[A#] At 5 o'clock you hear the cowbell and it's let's [F#] go.
It's bam.
Bam.
Bam
[A#] Everybody's working for the weekend [Gm] and that sets up your weekend and a lot of [D#] radio stations still use it.
It's [C#] fun
[F#] [Fm]
[C#]
[F#] [G#] It
Had a lot of legs that song [C#] and the crowd loves it crowd loves it even now I love singing it
You know, it's a fun song high-energy rock
[Cm] Hot girls in love it was a great song [G#] for live because it was so hot
It's so fast.
It gives it [Cm] the audience a chance to kind of join in because they always take the hot girls in love [G#] part
[F#] [D#]
[G#m] It was a great video to that that one had [F#] a great video of [D#] us
Doing [G#] fun things and just jumping on barrels girls and cars and just all the good [D#] so hot girls in love fabulous
[Am] Live loud and loose [D]
is are the best moments of?
the peak years of loverboy
[Am] The record company got together [D] and said [A] we've got these tapes in the vaults
[D]
of all your
[A] Concerts between [F#m] 1982 and 1986.
We took them up to Vancouver [A] and we started mixing them and we
We came up with this this [F#m] great [A] CD of
And we put it in the in the set
So it's like song [D] one right through the encore [E] the crowd and everything in the big hall, you know
25 years old just singing great and [F] having a good time [E] all of everybody's favorite songs plus a few kind of
Concert songs that we threw in we don't even play some of those songs now
So it's a real great experience
You know you [F#] throw the CD in your car and [Bm] by the time you're about an hour [A] and a half away
You've got the full the full vibe of a loverboy concert in in the early [B] to mid 80s
[E]
[A]
[B] [A]
[F#m]
[G#m]
[C#m] [B] [C#m]
I
[A]
[B] The [F#m] thing I'm most proud of is one year in
Canada we won [E] eight Juno Awards, which is the equivalent to [B] Grammy [D] Awards
[E] it's the Canadian version of a Grammy Award [F#] and
[E]
The [Dm] MC [E] that for that show was Burton Cummings who's famous from the guess [Am] who?
And it was loverboy this and loverboy was being called on to the stage so much when he [B] broke for a commercial
He said we'll be right [Em] back to the loverboy awards
Right after these words from our sponsor and I thought boy kid you've made [G] it now
[E] You know and I remember holding one of them up and said mom this one's for you, you know
I mean that was fabulous.
It was like we won every [C#] award we got nominated
[F#] [C#]
[F#]
[G#m] Living large we loved [A#] it.
[E] I can't I wouldn't change [A] a thing
I love her boy had a fantastic [D] beginning a fantastic middle and now we're doing the fantastic [E] things now
I mean, we're still happy.
We're still playing.
We're all [F#] together
