[D] [E] Jack Ingram co-wrote a few tunes with Liz Rose and Laurie McKenna that ended up on what many are [D] calling his Americana masterpiece, Midnight [A] Motel.
Jack and his team even produced a music video to one of those [E] songs, I'm Drinkin' Through It.
Here's the story on that one from Mr.
Ingram himself.
I call him Mr.
Ingram, he's got a
[D] So there's a song on the record called I'm Drinkin' [E] Through It that I wrote with Liz Rose, which [D] is
The lyrical content of the song [A] is [E] pretty funny, but [G] she's more well known for [A] her songs that she's co-written with [E] Taylor Swift and kind of that world.
But she's from [D] Texas and we've been friends for a long time and she knows what we're doing down [E] here.
And Laurie McKenna was also a co-writer [G] on this song, so we were sitting around one night [B] [E] at Liz's house and Liz just
We said something about somebody's problems and [D] Liz says, well, I'm drinkin' through it.
We're like, that's our song.
And so, [E] you know, the lyrics were that I'm going to have to explain to my kids one day.
And it might even get me [A] explicit lyrical [D] content on the cover of the CD.
[E] Basically it says, you fixed me, you hate [D] me, you love me, you drive me right out of my mind.
[A] I can bitch, I can cry, I can lay down and [E] die.
That ain't gonna happen tonight.
There's nothing to it.
[G] I'm drinkin' through it.
And we [E] got a big gang vocal on it.
Had a lot of fun recording it, but my [D] favorite memory [A] of that song thus [E] far is getting Laurie McKenna to sing [G] the guitar vocal demo that [A] night at about 2 in the morning.
And she's such a beautiful woman with beautiful songs and this angelic [E] voice.
And to hear her sing those lyrics, it's pretty special.
[G]
[C] [G] [C] [G]
[C] How y'all [G] doin'?
[C] Good to be back.
[G] I've been around the [C] world a few times since I seen you last.
[G] And I [C] learned something new.
[G] You can keep on keepin' on all you want.
[C] But if that [G] ain't gettin' the job done, sometimes you gotta make a [C] break in the action.
[G] I don't know [G] how you do that, but I know I found a good way.
It's called drinkin' through it.
[C] [G] Sometimes in real [C] life, ain't a damn thing you [G] can do.
[C] [G] I've tried everything, but [C] there just ain't no [G] pleasing you.
[C] Gone [Em] round after round, now you're shutting me down.
[Em] Go ahead and break us [C] in two.
[G] Walk out the door and believe that I'm broken [G] and bruised.
[C] You kick me, you cut me, [D] you hate me, you love me, [C] you drive me right out of my [D] mind.
I [C] could cuss, I could cry, I [D] could lay down and die, but [C] that ain't gonna happen [D] tonight.
There's nothing to it.
[C] [G] [Bm] I'm [Gm] drinkin' through [C] it.
I'm [G] drinkin' through [C] it.
[G] Sometimes you're thirsty.
[C] Sometimes you just [G] need a drink.
Who's with me out there?
Sometimes a [C] heartache don't hit you as hard [G] as you think.
[C]
[Em] Sometimes it [C] feels good to drown.
[Em] Order me up [C] one more round.
[G] I'll dive deep in your [C] memory tonight, but I [G] ain't gonna sink.
[C] You kick us, you cut [D] us, you hate us, you [C] love us, you drive us right [D] out of our [C] minds.
We could cuss, we could cry, [D] we could lay down and [C] die, but that ain't gonna [D] happen tonight.
There's [Em] nothing to [C] it.
I'm [E] drinkin' through [C] it.
[Em] Can't go over it.
[C] Can't go under it.
[G] So you drink right [D] through it.
Can't [E] go over it.
Can't [C] go down [G] it.
So you drink right [D] through it.
That's how we [Em] do it.
There's nothing to it.
Yeah, that's how we do it.
Come [G] on.
We drinkin' through it.
There you go.
We drinkin' through it.
We drinkin' through it.
We drinkin' through [C] it.
[G] [C] [G]
[C] [G] [C] [G]
Come [G] on.
We drinkin' through it.
[A] We [G] drinkin' through it.
[C] [G] You believe me?
You think it'll work?
Think about group therapy.
You can't do it alone. [C] Takes everybody.
It's all big one F.
[C] [G] We drink.
[C] [G]
[C] [G] [C] [G]
[C] Yeah, you fixed us.
Cause [D] you hate us, you love us, [C] you drive us right out of our [D] mind.
