Hi there, we're [N] going to now learn another 12 bar blues.
It's a very classic
Swing tune called in the mood by the late great Glenn Miller
and by the way, Glenn Miller's in the mood was one of the songs that became a predecessor to
Rock and roll many of the songs like rock around the clock Bill Haley in the Comets
All of these early rock and roll songs really had their roots in the swing music and particularly in the swing music of [A] Glenn Miller
we're going to use the same chords basically as we did for our 12 bar blues and a and
[B] I'm going to show you the second half of in the mood first it works off of that [A] a chord
You take an a chord
Then you bring your ring finger down to the second [F#m] fret of the second string
So [A] it goes
[F#m]
[A]
[Bm] [E]
[A] Now [E] what I did is I went way up here
I borrowed the fourth fret put my little finger on the fifth sixth seventh fret of the first string
That gives me a high E chord
It's a high inversion of the E chord and I go then [E] I go to the d7 and then end [A] on a
so it goes and
[E]
[A] That's the second half of in the mood
Now [F#] the first half goes like this you get your a chord and you really only need the index finger
So it's like an a seventh really and you put your thumb on that third string
your index finger on the second string and
Your middle finger on the first string [C#] so we have thumb index middle and we play the pattern thumb index middle thumb
Index middle thumb index middle like [A] this
Try that with me
[G#] Now when we get the speed up it should sound [A] like this
Then lift that [C] finger off
And put it back [A] down again
now
Play this chord.
It's kind of like a form of a D chord.
We only use two fingers
Second fret of the third string second fret of the second string same right hand picking [D] pattern thumb index middle
and again
[Bm] Then we go back to the first [A] one
[E] now this next chord is
The D chord
But it's moved up and what we do is we put the ring finger on the fourth fret of the third string
The little finger on the fourth fret of the second string and the index finger on the second fret of the first string
And we play that same pattern
[G#] so the whole progression sounds like [A] this [D]
[A] [E]
and then this little run and
[A]
[F] There I played the fourth [E] string fourth fret
Third [D#] fret
back up to the fourth
[A#m] first fret [G] third
[G#] fourth and first [A] string open
so it goes and
[Am]
[A] Then an a chord so the whole piece sounds like this
[D]
[A] [E]
[A]
[Bm] [A] [E]
[A] [D] [A]
[E]
[A] happy strumming
[F#m] [A]
