Start Jamming...
Hey guys, it's Dylan Lane and today I'm going to be teaching you [G] how to play In Christ Alone.
I've made [F] you a song sheet to go along with this tutorial.
It'll have the lyrics, the chords,
[C] pictures of my hands on the chords, [G] as well as the strumming patterns.
I'll put a link [C] to the
song sheet in the description box down below.
If you haven't already subscribed, make sure you do
so.
I post tons of [F] ukulele tutorial videos, songwriting tutorial videos, [C] original songs,
and cover songs.
For In Christ Alone, you'll need to know four chords.
C, [G] G, [Am] A minor,
[F] and [C] the strumming pattern will be simply down, down, down.
This song has four verses and it
doesn't really have a separate chorus section.
The chorus is kind of within the verse.
So in each verse, we're going to have the same chord pattern and it's going to be C,
[G] [F] G, F, G, [C]
C.
Then that's going to repeat.
[G] C, G, F, [C] G, C.
[F] Then we'll have F, G, F, [G] G,
and then back to C, G, F, [C] G, C.
And it's like that for each verse.
Adding the strumming pattern,
we have three down strums.
So starting with C, down, down, down, G, [G] down, down, down.
[F] Now when
we get to the word light, we're going to play one down strum on F, [G] then two down strums on G,
on the word strength, and then [C] C, three down strums.
One, two, three.
Adding in the lyrics
so you can hear how that sounds.
In Christ alone, see my hope is G found.
He is my F, [Fm] light my [G] G,
strength [C] my C song.
Now here it is without me saying the chords.
In Christ alone, my hope [G] is
found.
He is my light, my [C] strength, my song.
This cornerstone.
Then we're going to repeat that.
This [G] solid ground, [F] firm through the [G] fierce-ish drought [C] and storm.
Now moving on to the third line, we're going to do three down strums on F.
What heights of [F] love,
what depths [G] of, now G, peace where fears are.
Back [F] to F, stilled and [G] striving.
Back to G,
cease my comforter.
Now back to C, one, two, my all in all.
[F] Now when we go to F, we're going to
do the same thing where we do one down strum.
Here in the love of, and now two [G] down strums on G.
Christ, [C] I, three down strums on C, stand.
Okay, now I'm going to do the whole verse without saying
the chords so that you can see and watch how many times I'm strumming down on each chord.
In Christ alone, my hope [G] is found.
He is my [G] light, my strength, [C] my song.
This cornerstone.
This [G] solid ground, firm through the fierce-ish [C] drought and storm.
What [F] heights of love,
what [G] depths of peace where fears are [F]
stilled and striving.
Cease my [C]
comforter, my [G] all in all.
[F] Here in the love [G] of [C] Christ, I stand.
All right, moving on to verse two.
It's the exact same
chords and strumming pattern.
We're going to have different lyrics.
So it starts with in Christ alone.
In Christ alone, who took on [G] G, flesh, fullness of F,
God in [Am] helpless A.
Now notice again, whenever we get to that F on [Fm] God, fullness of God,
we're only strumming down [G] one time.
And then when we get to helpless, we do G twice,
helpless.
Then [Em] C three times [C] again.
This gift of love, C, and righteous [G] G-ness.
Scorned by [F] the F once he [G] G [C] came to C say.
I'm moving on to the third line of verse two.
We're going to go [F] to F.
Till on that F cross as Jesus [G] G died.
The wrath of F, God was [G] saddest
G.
For [C] every C sin on him [G] was G laid.
Here in the [F] F [G] of G Christ [C] I see.
Now that same exact thing repeats for verse three and verse four.
And I think the hardest part is
[N] remembering that even though you're doing three down strums on most chords, there's that one chord
in most lines where you're only doing one down strum and then two down strums and then back to
three down strums.
So just try it a few times and you'll get used to it.
And then you'll be able to
play.
Once you get comfortable playing along with this tutorial, you should go play along with my
cover of this song so that way you can play from start to [C] finish without stopping.
Again, I'll post
a link to the song sheet in the description box down below so you can have the chords, the lyrics,
[F] and pictures of my hands on the chords as well as the strumming pattern
