Hey guys, welcome to Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy!
I'm coming to you from my brand new recording studio here in Hawaii, and I thought it'd
be awesome to christen my new place and have my very first video out to be from a tweet
that I received from Michael Sweet from Striper, asking if I'd cover a Striper tune.
So I thought I'd pick up the challenge, and I decided to go ahead and do Soldiers
Under Command, and I want to thank my buddy Gary Shett for helping put the track together.
Thank you Gary!
But I want to point out that I do not have anywhere near the same vocal range or timbre
that Michael does, but I prove to you guys over and over that what I teach in my course,
if you apply yourself with the correct information I have in my singing course, that you can
sing in many different styles, many different ranges and timbres.
So we're going to do the song first and talk about it after.
Here it goes, Soldiers Under Command, it goes like this.

Whew!
Alright.
Remember, in the 80s, man, we used to do a lot of this stuff.
It's a lot of work.
But, like I said, I wanted to point out to you, I don't have the same vocal timbre or
range that Michael does, but what I tried to do was keep the integrity of kind of the
Iron Maiden-y sort of sounds that he had, kind of on the pre-chorus stuff.
He uses a lot of really cool vibrato.
In fact, he relaxes to a neutral state in vibrato a lot, and he relies on that a lot
to relax into big, long whole tones.
He uses some really good open throat technique, too, so you may not even realize that, but
he always kind of is consistent with his vowels.
He doesn't over-exaggerate them or over-shape the vocal tract.
So, with that said, guys, thank you for joining me.
We've got more coming your way from Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy.
