Hello guys, this is Amosdollmusic and in today's lesson
I'm going to teach you how to play the song called Kevin's Heart by J.
Cole.
Okay, so here we go
So I'll be teaching you the awesome chorus section that goes like this pretty awesome stuff
And essentially you'll also learn the chordal progression as well that you can actually apply to the whole song
Okay, so here we go.
So I'll give you a preview of what you can learn goes like this.
Check it out
[B] [D]
[C#] [F#m]
[B] [D]
[C#] [F#] Get drunk
[F#m] [B] [D]
[C#] [F#m]
[B] [D]
[C#]
[F#m]
Anyway, so yeah, normally is actually played for four times
So I'll teach you the melody and chord version first and then at the [C#] end
I'll tell you what you can do to make it more flashy like what I did in the improvisation is just there
Okay, but anyways, alright, so here we go.
So it's pretty simple stuff
Let's break up the lesson into two parts is easy to learn
The first part goes like this right hand starts on the F sharp up here
So middle C's here for reference would go up an octave to this C and then we go up to the F sharp
[Bm] That's where we start on so we have five F sharp.
So one two, three, four five
Down to C [A#m] sharp for two times
[G] B and then [F#] C sharp B C sharp B C sharp just like that
That is the first part for the right hand.
Okay, so essentially there's a pattern as well
So let's go through the pattern now
So first of all, we have five F sharps one two, three, four five down to C sharp
And then we have a pattern you do [C#] another
C sharp B.
Okay, we have C sharp B for three times
And then another C sharp like that.
Okay, [Bm] so you remember this pattern?
So five F sharps one two, three, four [C#] five down to C sharp and after the C sharp
we have C sharp B for three times [F#] one [G] two and
[C#]
Three and then C [F#] sharp like that.
Okay, so like that one two, three four
[G#] [F#] Okay
Just like that and that's the right hand
Once you get that left hand we have two chords here for the first part
The two chords are F [F#m] sharp minus seven is a four-note chord, which is F sharp A C sharp E
And then the second chord is E minor [Em] seven, which is E G B D
Okay, [G] so yeah with those two [F#m] chords in mind so F sharp minus seven followed by E minor [Em] seven
The two hands together goes like this.
F sharp and F sharp minor [F#m] 7 together.
C sharp and
E [B] minor 7 together.
That is the first part.
One more time.
It [F#m] goes like this.
Together.
[B]
Together.
Like that.
Sounds awesome already.
And after this first part, let's learn the
second part.
[A] Right hand goes down to the A and then two [B] B's.
C sharp B [F#m] A A [F#] F sharp and
then up to B for three times.
Two three C [Bm] sharp B.
And that's the right hand for [E] this
second part.
One more time.
It goes like this.
[A] A [C#] B B C sharp [F#m] B A A [Bm] F sharp B B [C] B C [Bm] sharp
B.
And that's the [D] right hand [C#] again.
That's the right hand.
Once you get that [C] left hand,
we have two chords here for the second part.
The two chords are D major 7 which is [D] another
four note chord.
D F sharp A C sharp.
And then the second chord here is C sharp [C#] 7 which
is C sharp F G sharp B.
Another four note chord as well.
[F] So with these two chords in
[D] mind, so D major 7 followed by [C#] C sharp 7.
The two together goes like this.
The [D] first
note A and D major 7 together.
[Bm] [D] First B and [C#] C sharp 7 together.
That is that.
One more
time.
So it [D] goes like this.
It goes together.
[C#] Together.
And that is that.
Okay.
So yes.
[Bm] [D] [C#]
And that is that for the second part.
So back to back, the two parts of the flute will be
playing like this.
[F#m] Check it out.
[B] [D]
[C#] And all you need to do is [F#m] repeat that.
[B] [D]
[C#] Yeah, just like
that.
It sounds really nice already.
So afterwards what you can do to make it more interesting,
obviously you can do some left hand rhythmic patterns based on the chords.
[F#m] So you can be
[B] like
[D]
[C#] [F#m]
[B] [D]
[C#] Something like that.
So that requires a tiny bit more hand rhythm, hand independence
because the left hand is doing its own rhythm kind of thing.
But it's still the same thing,
all the same melody and chords.
Again afterwards if you feel more comfortable like that, you
can start to combine the chords with the right hand melody as well.
And also for the left
hand do some [A] bass notes and arpeggios, all this kind of stuff, still based [E] on the chords
and everything.
So you can see it's kind of like a thing where you learn the melody and
the chords and everything you add to it is just made up on the spot.
Just extra added
stuff to it.
So for example, [F#m] do something like this.
[Em]
[D] [C#]
[F#] [F#m] [Em]
[D]
[C#]
[F#]
[F#m] Something like that.
Anyways, for other people who [C#] want to sing to it, rap to it, you can
actually just play the four chords and accompany yourself and play that.
So I have something
like this.
Let me see.
So based on the chords, still everything like that, but you want to
spread out the chords for both [F#m] hands.
[Em] [D]
[C#] [F#m]
[Em] [D]
[C#] [F#m]
[Em] [D]
[C#]
[F#m] Anything, just like that.
[F#] So that's how I teach because it allows you to have all this
freedom when you're learning and playing music.
But anyway, if you want to learn more about

And after this first part, let's learn the

D F sharp A C sharp.
And then the second chord here is C sharp [C#] 7 which

Another four note chord as well.
[F] So with these two chords in
[D] mind, so D major 7 followed by [C#] C sharp 7.
The two together goes like this.
The [D] first
note A and D major 7 together.
[Bm] [D] First B and [C#] C sharp 7 together.
That is that.
One more
time.
So it [D] goes like this.
It goes together.
[C#] Together.
And that is that.
Okay.
So yes.
[Bm] [D] [C#]
And that is that for the second part.

_ [G] B and then [F#] C sharp B C sharp B C sharp just like that
That is the first part for the right hand.
Okay, so essentially there's a pattern as well
So let's go through the pattern now
So first of all, we have five F sharps one two, three, four five down to C sharp
And then we have a pattern you do [C#] another
C sharp B.
Okay, we have C sharp B for three times
_ And then another C sharp like that.
Okay, [Bm] so you remember this pattern?
So five F sharps one two, three, four [C#] five down to C sharp and after the C sharp
we have C sharp B for three times [F#] one [G] two and
_ _ [C#] _
Three and then C [F#] sharp like that.
Okay, so like that one two, three four
_ _ _ [G#] _ _ [F#] Okay
Just like that and that's the right hand
Once you get that left hand we have two chords here for the first part
The two chords are F [F#m] sharp minus seven is a four-note chord, which is F sharp A C sharp E
And then the second chord is E minor [Em] seven, which is E G B D
Okay, [G] so yeah with those two [F#m] chords in mind so F sharp minus seven followed by E minor [Em] seven
The two hands together goes like this.
F sharp and F sharp minor [F#m] 7 together. _
_ _ _ C sharp and
E [B] minor 7 together.
_ _ That is the first part.
One more time.
It [F#m] goes like this.
Together.
_ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _
Together.
Like that.
Sounds awesome already.
And after this first part, let's learn the
second part.
[A] Right hand goes down to the A and then two [B] B's.
_ C sharp B [F#m] A A [F#] F sharp and
then up to B for three times.
_ That's the right hand.
Once you get that [C] left hand,
we have two chords here for the second part.
The two chords are _ D major 7 which is [D] another
four note chord.
[Bm] _ [D] _ _ First B and [C#] C sharp 7 together.
_ _ That is that.
One more
time.
So it [D] goes like this.
It goes together.
_ _ _ [C#] Together.
_ _ _ And that is that.
Okay.
So yes.
[Bm] _ _ [D] _ _ [C#] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ And that is that for the second part.
So back to back, the two parts of the flute will be
playing like this.
[F#m] Check it out. _
_ _ [B] _ _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ [C#] _ _ And all you need to do is [F#m] repeat that.
_ _ [B] _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ [C#] _ _ Yeah, just like
that.
It sounds really nice already.
So afterwards what you can do to make it more interesting,
obviously you can do some left hand rhythmic patterns based on the chords.
[F#m] So you can be
_ _ _ [B] like_
_ _ [D] _
_ _ _ [C#] _ _ _ _ [F#m] _
_ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ [C#] _ _ Something like that.
Just _ extra added
stuff to it.
So for example, [F#m] do something like this.
_ _ _ [Em] _ _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ [C#] _
_ _ [F#] _ _ _ [F#m] _ _ [Em] _
_ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _ _
[C#] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [F#] _ _ _ _ _ _
[F#m] _ Something like that.
Anyways, for other people who [C#] want to sing to it, rap to it, you can
actually just play the four chords and accompany yourself and play that.
So I have something
like this.
Let me see.
So based on the chords, still everything like that, but you want to
spread out the chords for both [F#m] hands.
_ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ [C#] _ _ _ _ [F#m] _
_ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ [C#] _ _ _ _ [F#m] _
_ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ [C#] _ _ _ _ _
[F#m] _ _ Anything, just like that.
