Start Jamming...
[Bm] Hi everyone, I'm Elijah D.
[A] Welcome to Music Greatness.
This is Uben and today we're going
to break down Kevin's Heart [Bm] by J.
Cole.
And it sounds like this.
[C#m]
[Bm] [D]
[C#] [C#m]
[B] [D]
[C#] [F#] [C#m]
[B] [D] [Dm]
[C#] [C#m]
[D] [C#] [F#]
[C#m] Ok, so [F#m] this song is mainly played in two different patterns, but you can play the whole song
by only knowing the first one.
We're in the key of A major and first we're going to play
F sharp minor 9.
[C#m]
That's [F#m] C sharp, F sharp and A on my left hand, [C#m] C sharp, E and then G sharp
on my right.
Then I'm going to go down a whole step and play E minor [Bm] 9.
B, E, G, B, D and
then F sharp.
After that I'm going to play this.
[C#] [F#]
That's D sharp 7, D sharp 9 sorry, with
a sharp [G#] 5.
[D#] D sharp, natural G and C sharp on my left hand, F [F#] sharp and B on my right.
And that's [D] my passing chord to go to D major 7.
D, A, C sharp, F sharp and then A on top.
And then my [C#] passing chord to go back to F sharp minor 9 is going to be C sharp 7.
Right,
C sharp, G sharp, B and then natural F.
So that's the chords progression and the voicings
for the first pattern.
So let's go through the chords again.
We have F sharp minor 9,
[C#m]
E minor [Bm] 9, D sharp 9 with a sharp [F#] 5, going to [D] D major 7 and C sharp [C#] 7.
[C#m]
[G] [D]
[C#] Now for the [D] details
of this pattern on D major 7, we're going to play this melody line.
Alright, so I'm
going to play [G] D and B on my left hand and then complete [A] by playing A with my fifth finger
on my right hand.
[D] Alright, so what after D major 7?
[A] Play D, B and A.
Then you have C
sharp [C#] 7 and you have this melody line.
[C#m]
Alright, so first here you have a grace note from G
sharp to A.
[G#]
Here I'm using my third finger and my fourth [D] finger.
Then I'm going back
to [G] G sharp, play F sharp, [F#]
F natural, [Fm] F sharp again and G sharp [G#] again.
[C#] [G#]
Then I'm [C#]
[C#m] back on
F sharp minor 9.
[F#] Now the second melody line I'm going to play after C sharp 7 is this.
[G#m] So that's first also a grace note.
[F#m] Now I'm playing two notes at once.
[F#] Alright, I have
G sharp and B with my thumb [E] and my third finger [G#] going to A and C sharp with my second and
fourth finger.
[F#m] After [G#] that I'm going to go down,
[E] play G sharp and B, [D] then play F sharp
and A with my second and fourth, [C#]
F natural and G sharp with my thumb and third finger,
[F#m] F sharp and A [G#m] again and G sharp and B, alright, with my third and fifth.
[F#m] [G#m]
[G#]
[F#m] [C#m] And then repeat that
same pattern.
So let's replay that.
[Bm]
[D] [C#]
[C#m] [B]
[D] [C#]
[F#] [C#m] [Bm]
[D] [Dm] [C#]
[C#m] [G]
[D] [C#]
[F#] [C#m]
And that's [A] it for this first part.
