A very interesting thing happened really early on when John Woodruff, who ended up subsequently
becoming our manager, was involved in probably the peak period of the Angels.
He was managing the Angels.
And he called me over, we supported them a lot, and he called me over to the side of
the stage while they were on and he said, watch what Doc does right at the beginning
of the set.
What he's going to do is he's going to go to every extreme of the stage that he can
And that gives him a kind of mental plan in his head of where he can go.
And sure enough, as soon as he went on, he went far stage left, far stage right, right
up the back, right up the back, onto the drum riser.
And there he was kind of planning in his head, okay, this is my stage, this is the places
I can go.
And I still have that kind of little thing going on in my brain, as soon as you release
me from the guitar, that I'm going to go and I'm just going to find all those extremes.
When I joined the band, I was said, no one has ever played this bass line right, of all
the other bass players.
So he sent me a Pro Tools session with the bass on one side and the band on the other
and I learnt the entire thing exactly right.
And then I went, oh wow, that's what he's doing.
[F]
Thank you very much.
[Dm]
[C] Ladies, ladies, ladies, where are you?

[Dm] This is what's up, I'm Paul.
