I'm [Ab] David Grissom and I live in Austin, [B] Texas.
[Eb] [A] I grew up in [C] Louisville, Kentucky.
[Ab] Not exactly a hotbed of music, but my [B] [A] grandfather played drums a little bit, my [Ab] mother played
piano [E] about a year or a little bit, and [B] [A] I, of course, it's kind of the usual suspects,
got [Ab] me into music, the Beatles, the Stones, Hendrix, the Allman [B] Brothers.

[A] [C] Living in Louisville, [A] there was all this bluegrass and country stuff going on, so I got to [Ab] hear
Doc Watson, [Bb] Norman Blake, [G] my father loved [Ab] Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, all these
different styles sort of [E] melted into me.
The defining [Bb] moment when I knew I wanted to play guitar was when I got [B] Revolver by the
Beatles and the [A] lick at the end of God to Get You Into My Life, I heard that and it
was like, I gotta play guitar.
And that was, yeah, I mean I can remember that moment.

The first paying [A] gig I can remember, I think I was 16, I just remember the feeling at the
end of the night if somebody handed me like [G] 25 bucks or 30 bucks and thinking, this [E] is alright.
[A] Since I moved here, I met Joe Ely and did a six year [E] stint with him where I got to tour
all over the world.
[B]
That was the [Ab] situation I felt where I really developed a style that I could call my own
[A] and I really sort of started incorporating this [Ab] pedal steel [G] approach to electric guitar
into my [B] playing.
[E] [A] And then I worked with John Mellencamp for three years, which is another great experience
in a different [Ab] way, going from [Gb] clubs to arenas and then
[A] the experience of making [G] records
with him was really educational.
At the [Ab] end of that tenure, I got to go out with the Allman Brothers for three weeks.
[A]
If you had told me that when I was [Ab] 16, that one day I was actually going to be standing
next to Greg Allman playing Dreams, [Gb] I don't [A] think I would have believed you, but that
was [Gbm] a real highlight.
[D] [E] [C] I am always looking for something else to take the tone to the next level.
I got a call from [A] a guy here [E] in Austin about this new [G] cable that he had heard and knew
the guys that were making it and it was [Gb] a real high end cable, which to me meant [B] expensive.
I [G] plugged in my favorite [B] cable straight into the amp, listened to it, thought, well that sounds [Bb] great.
And then I plugged in the Astro cable [E] and I was like, you're kidding me.
[B] It was [C] just this great sensation of [Bb] again playing higher up on the neck and the notes
were warm and punchy, [A] not bright and brittle.
[Em]
[Bb] And you know, it was like [A] all of a sudden the cable didn't really seem [B] very expensive.

It's interesting too because I've heard other guys that [G] I really respect totally on [C] the
