[N] Hey gang, today we're going to do something by special request, something I think is simple
but also pretty cool.
Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Actually it's the best combination, simple and also pretty cool sounding.
So we'll go through that note for note in just a second.
We'll go through the opening and the chords.
Hey, if you like this one, press the like button and [F] if you haven't yet, subscribe
for one of these every week.
We'll see you in just a second.
[Em] Okay gang, let's go over this note for note.
First things first, you can download the tab.
Probably won't need it, but you can download it from the link in the description below.
Alright, first let's cover the chords because [Abm] I think that the chords inform what's going
to happen on that introduction.
So the chords are for the verse the following.
[G] We'll go from a G [Em] to [F] an F to [Eb] a C or a C7, [Cm] either one's fine, [Bb] [G] back to a G.
[Abm] We're going to find that the intro follows that exactly.
Alright, the second thing is for the chorus [G] is G, [Dm] D,
[Cm] C.
[B] [G]
[N] That is it for the chords.
It's not a very complex song.
It's alright by me.
Rock and roll isn't about being complex necessarily.
Okay, so here we go now.
Let's do that intro.
So first things first, let me play it slowly.
The hardest part about this one, this one uses a technique called sixths.
If you haven't encountered that before, it's playing on two non-adjacent [Ab] strings.
In this case, it's always going to be the fourth string and the second string.
And you [B] can either play with pick and finger, which is my usual [N] method.
I usually play [G] this.
[Ab] So picking down on the fourth string and plucking up [B] with my middle finger on the second [G] string.
[A] But [N] for this one, I'm going to play a downstroke on the fourth string and then an [G] upstroke
with my pick on the second, like so.
[Abm] Either one of those techniques is fine.
I prefer the pick and fingers, but if you don't know how [N] to do that, fear not.
You can just pick with an upstroke on the second string.
It's going to work out just fine.
All right, so here we go.
I'll play the whole thing slowly, naming out the sixths that we're doing.
All right, so the first one's based on a G.
Here we go, G.
[G]
Now an F.
[F] Now a [C] C.
Now [F] back to a [G] G.
And [Ab] [Dm] then we just do that [G] again.
[F]
[Em]
[F] [G]
[N] I said I was going to play with my pick and then I played with pick and fingers, didn't I?
All right, anyway.
Let's go through this in some detail just so you get it.
Again, it's in the tab, so that may be all you need right there.
But let's just go through it.
So that first G, again, remember it's on two non-adjacent strings.
I'm going to name the first, the fret on the fourth string and then the fret on the second
string for all these.
The G will be [G] 9-8.
[Ab] And keep in [Abm] mind, you're sliding into these.
I like to slide from two [C] frets below.
I think that [Dm] works in this [G] song.
The [Am] next [Ab] one is 7 [F]-6.
So that's 7-6.
The [G] next one is, that's the F chord.
The next one is a C chord.
And so it's 5-5.
We're going to slide in.
I like to slide in from the [F] three.
[Em]
And then the last one is a G [Ab] chord.
And we're going to play 5-3.
So it's not quite a sixth anymore, but [F] that's [G] OK.
And then [F] finally our notes.
[G] [D] And that's just, this is on the sixth string, the sixth fret.
We'll play that, bend it up slightly.
[Eb] Just a little bit.
[G] And then back to the three.
All right, here's [Dm] the whole thing.
[G]
[F] [C]
[G]
[Abm] That's it, folks.
Well, there you go.
Pretty short, pretty simple, and pretty sweet.
I hope you
