Hey [N] guys, it's Karl Brown from Guitar Lessons 365.com.
Today we're going to learn how to play Drive by Incubus.
So this is going to be a quick one.
It's got some, you know, if you're kind of a beginner level, probably some challenging
chords, but there's no bar chords though, so it's easy in that way.
So let's take a look at it here.
We're in standard tuning.
We basically have two riffs to learn, two chord progressions.
So let's just go through the chords first.
[E] We're going to start with the low E open string, then the 7th fret on the A,
[Em] 9 on the D [G] string,
open G string, and then the 8th fret on the [Em] B string.
Now the high E string is open there too.
We have those.
Next chord.
[E]
Now this is a little [D] bit of a, [C] might be a little bit of a challenge.
So you might want [N] to bring your thumb up, that'll help you, or really bring your thumb
down [E] and that'll help you too.
So kind of in mid-range it's kind of a hard chord to play.
So this is the 7th fret on the [G] A, 5th fret on the D, [Bm] and then 7th fret on the G and the
[E] B.
So we have 7th on the A, G, and B, and then 5th fret there on the D.
[Em]
[E] [C]
Then 3rd fret here, this is a C major 7th chord, 3rd [Cm] fret on the 5th [G] string, [C]
3rd fret
on the [G] A string, 5th fret on the D,
[B] 5th fret on the B, I'm sorry, 4th fret on the B, [E] 5th
fret on the B.
[Em] Let's [Eb] go through that again, we're going to [C] cross up.
So 3rd fret on the A, [G] 5th fret on the D, [B] 4th fret on the [E] G, 5th fret on the B, open
high [C] E.
There we go.
[A] Alright, now you're going to come across and grab the 5th fret on the [G] low E, 5th fret on
the D, and then hit the open G.
[A] [E] Now you're going to want to use the bottom of your middle finger there to mute the A
[Em] string, [A] or you can add a little, because it's the same note anyway.
[Em] Alright, [G]
[C] [A]
[Em]
[C] [G]
so [E] the rhythm is, he likes to start it with the low E string and the 5th string
kind of muted, [Em] and then down, up, [E]
then grab the bottom note of this next chord, [G] and that's
being down, down, [E] up again.
[Em]
[E] [Em]
[G]
[Ab] And now we're to the C major 7th [C] chord, and once again, he's grabbing this note first,
hit [Db] it a couple times, [Cm] sometimes we go to the [C] first two bottom strings, or just the
low string twice.
And then once again, down, down, up.
[A] [G] [A] And then that last chord, the low note hit first, [Bm]
[Bb] and then the down, down, up.
So we [Em] have this.
[G] [C]
[Em]
[C] [D]
[Em]
[E] [C] [E]
Alright, the next [C] part,
[A] [E] which is really the pre-chorus of the song, starts with that C
major 7th, kind of picked the [C] same way,
[A] then move it down, these two fingers, down to the
[B] A7 chord.
So [E] we have the second [E] fret on the D, second fret on the B.
[A]
A string [Em] is open, G string is open, high E string is [C] open.
So [A] just move those fingers down.
Now as he does this, [Em]
he kind of randomly [B] moves [E] up that, lifts off the pinky, and then puts
it back down.
[Em] [C]
[A]
[Em] [A] [C]
[Em]
[C]
[Em] [A]
So the fourth time, just strum across that chord, and then build up with the [E] downstrokes,
[Em]
[G] [C] [Am]
[G] and you've got the song down.
Alright, I hope you guys enjoyed it.

[Em] Let's [Eb] go through that again, we're going to [C] cross up.

There we go.
