Today I'm going to show you the Seagull effect on Echoes.
What you need is to reverse the connections on your wah-wah pedal.
The guitar goes into the output and the signal to the next pedal or the [Gm] amp goes from the input.
I'm using a Vox wah-wah pedal into a Deluxe Memory Man [F#] for [A] delays about 300 ms.
You need to set up your guitar for the pickup selector in the fourth position combining
the [Gm] middle and bridge pickup.
You're using the lower tone knob to control the volume and the pitch of the effect.
The guitar volume needs to be at 10.
The effect is extremely loud so you have to be careful when you [F#] adjust the volume on your
[G]
amp.
It's vital to use a volume pedal.
So what you do is set the tone all the way up and you slowly adjust the tone knob towards 10.
This way you get the effect, the volume and the pitch.
You can control the pitch with the tone knob.
Just hear how it sounds.
[G]
So that's the effect.
What happens is that [A#] you get the feedback from the reversed wah-wah connection.
[B] You also notice that the pitch goes up and down as I control the tone.
You get this sort of laughing effect.
It sounds like the seagull is laughing.
[G] This is achieved by rolling the tone knob up and very, very slowly back again.
Just before the tone fades out you can get this laughing effect.
You just have to try a couple of times and find the sweet spot before the tone fades.
I'm going to show you a couple of techniques.
The wah-wah pedal has a fixed position with the heel all the way back.
This is just a [Gm] basic fix.
[B] [G]
You can control [Gm] the pitch to about 5 or 6 and back again.
Just a basic fix.
To get that laughing effect at the end, do the same with the tone knob to about 5 or
6 and very, very slowly back again.
[G]
So when you hear that laughing effect you hold the tone to get the same pitch for 2
or 3 seconds [Gm]
and then all the way down.
There's a third way also.
That's to use the pickup selector.
David [N] doesn't do this very much but it gives you an alternative.
So the pickup selector is in the [Gm] fourth position and just by wiggling it back and forth you
get this wild sound.
So that's the main ways to do this.
