[G] Some folks are born [F] made to wave the [C] flag, ooh, they're red, white, and [G] blue.
And when the band plays [F]
hand to the [C] chief, ooh, they point the [G] cannon at you, Lord.
It ain't [F] me, it ain't [C] me, I ain't no senator's [G] son.
It ain't me, [F] it ain't [C] me, I ain't no fortunate [G] one.
[N] This is the guitar lesson for CCR's Fortunate Son from GuitarMadeEasy.com.
First thing you want to do is make sure that your guitar is in standard E [E] tuning.
And let's jump right in.
The intro [N] of the song is very easy.
What we're going to do is we're going to take our middle finger and we're going to slide up from about the third fret on the D [G] string
[A] all the [Em] way up to the ninth fret on the D string.
So slide to the ninth fret on the D string and then pointer finger is going [G] to pluck the B string on the eighth fret.
So next [F] we're going to do the same thing, but instead of sliding up to the eighth and ninth fret, we're going to slide up to the sixth and seventh fret.
So, okay, so [D] so far we [Em] have
[F]
[N] Next we're going to slide up with our middle finger to the fifth fret on the D string.
And our ring finger is going to pluck the fifth fret on [Em] the B string.
And last but not least, we're going to [G] take our ring finger, slide on the D string from about the third fret all the way up to the fifth fret.
And then we're going to have our pointer finger pluck the third fret [D] on the B string.
And now we're going to take our pinky, put that on [Bb] the sixth fret, pluck it once, and then pointer finger [G] is going to back it up.
And it's going to be on the third fret on the E string and pluck it again.
All together we
[F]
[Em] [G] [D]
[Bb] [G] have
[Bb] Now you can also bend this about a quarter step on this [N] sixth fret on the E string.
It actually sounds a little bit better that way anyways.
So when you're playing it, it should sound like [G] this.
[F]
[Em] [G]
[Bb] Could you hear that little bend I [G] had in there?
[E] I kind of bent my pinky down [Bb] that way [G] when I was on the string and then I hit the third fret on the E string.
[N] Now this song is super easy.
It's all just power chords.
Our power chord shape, just know one shape.
We move it around the fretboard, it gives us different chords.
The very first power chord we have is a G power chord.
Pointer finger on the third fret on the E string, ring finger on the fifth fret on the A string, pinky on the fifth fret on the D string.
Now the strumming for that goes like [G] this.
So down, mute, down, mute, down, down, down.
Next chord is going to slide this shape [F] down to the first and third fret for an F power chord.
Slide it all [C] the way up to the eighth and tenth fret.
Now back down [G] to the third and fifth on that G.
So all together it should sound like this.
[F]
[C] [G]
[F]
[C] [G]
[N] Now you can also play, instead of using power chords, just regular chords.
The chord progression like with the power chords goes [G] from G to [A] [F] F to [C] C back [G] to G.
Now one [N] more part I'm going to show you that makes up the song is the interlude which goes like this.
[Dm] [Dbm]
[Am]
[Bm] [B]
[Dbm] [Am]
[D] Now how I [N] played that was I take my pointer finger, I put that on, let's say just right around the second fret on the B string.
Middle finger is going to go on the third fret on the G string.
We're going to [Db] slide up [Dm]
to the sixth and seventh fret.
[Eb] [Dbm] And then we're going to go down to the fifth and sixth fret.
And then pluck it and slide down [Am] to the first and second.
And then we're going to pluck it [Bm] again and slide into the third and fourth fret.
[N] The same shape, I just move it around the fretboard and it's going to help me complete this part of the song to play.
It should sound like this.
[Dm] [Dbm]
[Am]
[Bm] [B]
[Dbm] [Am]
[Bm]
[N] Those are all the parts of the song guys.
Piece them where they go, listen to the original recording and you'll be just fine.
