Chattahoochee - Guitar Lesson and Tutorial - Alan Jackson chords
Start Jamming...
[N] [Gb] [Em] Chattahoochee was a [F] big number one hit single for [D] country star Alan Jackson who co-wrote the song along [Gb] with Jim McBride
[G] The song is still getting a lot of radio play a couple decades later
And it happens to be a great song to learn on the [D] guitar.
It's in the key of C
[G] There's nothing real fancy going on with the acoustic part, but it does have some kind of fun
fast strumming parts that we're gonna learn
There's a lot of cool chicken-picking [Gb] work on the lead guitar and in the radio version
The fiddle [Abm] takes the solo in the middle of the song
But [Gb] we're a guitar website and thankfully they released an extended version that has a great chicken-picking guitar solo
[G] That will learn [Eb] instead of the fiddle part
[F]
[Cm] [C]
[G] [C]
[G] [C]
[G] [C]
[F]
[C]
[F]
[D]
[G]
[C] Yeah, there's a little old mother on the Chattahoochee, do you know how much she mother taught [G] her men?
[C] When I learned how to swim, I learned how to paddle a little, paddle a little, [G] paddle a little, [F] [Dm]
[C]
[Fm]
[D] paddle a little
[G] Yeah, [C] there's a little old mother on the Chattahoochee, do you know how much she mother [G] taught her men?
[C] I pulled her off her head [G] but I didn't [C] go
[F] Down by the river on a Friday night, [C] she threw me in a can through the pale moon
[F] Got my mouth caught in a dream about winning, [D] never had a plan [G] just to live in for the living
[C] Yeah, I always knew
[G] Alright, we've got three parts to learn on the acoustic guitar
We'll start with the [C] intro, which is the same as the outro, [Bb] and then we'll do the verse, then we'll learn the [D] chorus
And for the intros and the verses, we just have two chords
The [C] first one is a [G] standard C [C] chord
[Eb] The next [Bb] one, we have a [G] standard G chord
[B] So, when we get [Bb] to the band coming in, the [C] lead guitar will start the [Bb] whole song and the intro just by itself
[Eb]
Then we'll come in with the drums, and [Fm] it will sound like this
[C]
[G]
[C] Then we keep going
down, down, down, up, down, down, down, down, up, down, down, down, down, down, down, [G] down,
[C]
up, down, down, down, down, down, up, down.
And then [G] the verse comes [B] in.
So we can kind of make
it feel a little bit more authentic if we aim our downstrokes and [G] upstrokes a little bit.
So
the first downstroke will be on just the low strings, [C] down, the next one.
The strum pattern
is actually the same that we learned in the verse.
So let's [Db] take a chorus nice and slow using
[B] upstrokes and downstrokes.
We're going to start [Bb] on the F.
[F] Down, down, down, up, down, down, down,
down, up, down, to the [C] C.
Down, down, up, down, down, down, down, up, down, back [F] to the F.
Down,
down, up, down, down, down.
Now to the D [D] major and now to the [G] G.
And that's [F] kind of what I would
consider the first half of the chorus.
Then [Eb] when we get to the second half of the chorus, [D] [F] we play
it just exactly the same way that we play the verse.
On a C, [C] down, down, down, up, down, [Eb] down,
one, [C] two, three, go.
[G]
[C]
Verse.
All [G] right, this tutorial is going to cover everything except for the guitar
solo on the lead guitar.
We'll learn the solo in the next tutorial.
We're going to start with one
of the more recognizable [Bm] licks in country music.
It sounds like this.
This is the intro [B] and outro
lick.
[C]
[G] [C]
[Em]
[C] [Em] [C]
All right, [Dbm] so we start with just our pointer finger sliding up from two to three on the A
string.
And I like to kind [C] of
All right, I'm going to play the solo in tempo but nice and slow,
[D] then we'll go through it note by [F] note, and then we'll play it at full speed [Gb] along with the metronome.
Here's how it [F] sounds.
[D]
[C]
[G]
[F]
[D]
[Em] [G]
[C]
All right, so we're going to break this up into four different sections.
Section one is [D] pretty short [G] and sweet.
It's [F] this.
[D] [B]
One, two, [F] one, two, three.
[D] [C]
[Fm] [Dm]
[Em] [G]
[C]
[F]
[C]
[F]
[D]
[G]
One, two, one, two, three.
