[G] [Em]
[Am] [D] Don't close [G]
your [N] eyes. Catchy song.
We're doing country songs.
We're going a little old school on you.
So that's Keith Whitley with Don't Close Your Eyes.
This is the strum progression he's playing.
There's actually some really pretty sounding other guitar parts going on.
But I wanted to give you a little more of, you know, this is what Keith is playing himself
on the strum progression.
So it's just a good chord workout and I didn't want it to get too crazy on you guys.
So the strum pattern is just an eighth note pattern.
Okay, so, and a lot of chords here.
C major, go 3A, tune standard on this one by the way.
3A, 2D, 1B.
[C] And what you want to do, just go down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
It's a little faster if we [G] have sixteenth notes there, but [D] memorize that.
It's not tricky in the sense that if you did it down, your [C] next one's an up.
If you have to count it as an eighth note pattern, you'll be going 1 and 2 and 3 and [C#m] 4 and.
Then we go to D major, 2E, 3B, 2G.
[N] Take your thumb and touch the low E.
Don't push it down, just to mute it.
And go [D] 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.
Then we go to [D] G major.
He's using the four finger version, so 3G, or 3E, 2A, 3B, 3E.
[D#] And this one, [G] just go down, up, down, up.
Then we're going to do a D slash F sharp.
I love this chord, especially following in G major.
Get rid of your pinky and [A] go 2E, first finger, [E] 2D, or I'm sorry, 2G, middle finger, and we
have the 3B already set down.
And go down, up, [D] down, up on that.
Hi, [Gm] you've muted.
Okay, so we [G] would.
[D]
[C#] And then E minor, 2A, [Em] 2D.
Down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
So 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.
So back to the long pattern.
A minor, 2D, [D] 2G, 1B.
Good.
And with your thumb, mute the low E.
[Am] Good.
Down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
Same length as the E minor, so the long pattern.
D major, [Cm] 2E, 3B, 2G.
[F#] Mute that low E.
[D] And go down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
They're all long patterns now.
G [G] major, 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.
[Em] E minor, long pattern, 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.
A minor, [Am] 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.
D [Em] major, mute that low E.
[D] 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.
And here's how he wraps it up.
Go to C major, [C] strum it once from string 5 through string 1.
And then take your middle finger, put it to fret 2 on the [G] A, get rid of your third finger.
[D] Strum them again.
[Am]
[Bm] [Am] A minor 7 is next.
Just drop your middle finger to [G#m] 2D.
Leave your first finger on 1B.
[C] And then G major, one [G] strum.
The [C] ending was.
[G]
[N] Catchy song.
If you haven't heard Keith Willey, check it out.
Very catchy song.
It's not old, old, old, old school.
It's just old, old school.
Have fun with it.
Great chord song.
Straight forward, you know.
Eighth note count on the strumming hand.
