[Dm] Hey guys, it's Karl Brown from GuitarLessons365.com.
Got a quick one for you today.
We're going to learn how to play Careless Whisper by George Michael.
So it's just one four chord progression that goes for the entire song.
So it's pretty cool.
Now, the strumming pretty much could stay the same through a lot of it.
It's just kind of that feel.
But you might want to, as it goes to different parts of the song, the feel might slightly change.
The chords stay the same though.
So let's take a look at the four chords first.
We're going to start with this D minor chord.
I'm in standard tuning here.
[D] [Dm] However you like to play a D minor.
Some people like this first fret there on the high E.
You might want to use your third
finger there on the third fret of the B.
I just use my pinky.
Then the second fret of the [A] G and the [Dm] open D string.
So I'm going to go down, up, up.
And then we're going to go to a G minor chord.
So it's a full bar at the third fret.
Then you just add the fifth fret on the A and the fifth fret on the [Gm] D.
[Dm] If you're not good at playing bar chords yet, just make sure you move
When you're playing the D minor, you have your thumb up over the fretboard.
It kind of makes it more comfortable.
When you [Gm] switch to the G minor bar, you need to move the thumb down to about the middle
of the back of the neck.
That allows your fingers to shoot straight up.
Point upwards and easier to do the bar.
Now there's a little transition note, a little bass note, bass line.
So it goes from [Dm] this D minor, [Gm]
G [A] minor.
Then you grab the A note.
This is at the fifth fret here.
[Gm] If you want, [A] you can grab the open A string if you [Gm] want.
[A] And as you do that open A string, you can jump to this B [Bb] major seventh chord.
That is played first fret on the A string, [F] third fret on [A] the D, second fret [Dm] on the G,
and third fret on the B.
I kind
[Am] of sometimes release the pressure of the chord and do a little down up on the muted [Bb] strings there.
So [Am]
release the pressure.
Still got that shape in your hand.
Little mute.
Just down up on those muted strings into an A minor chord.
So all together [Dm] and [Gm]
[A]
[Am]
[Dm] repeat.
[Gm] [A]
[Bb] [Am]
[Gm] All right, so that's just the foundation of the song.
It's pretty easy.
Pretty good for a beginner guitarist to try to, especially if you're practicing going to
a bar chord.
It's a good one to [Ab] practice.
All right, so we're keeping it pretty simple today.
Pretty quick one.
Still a great song.
I hope you guys enjoyed it.
