What song are you going to do for us acoustically?
I can't wait for this.
Tonight Tonight.
One of my favorite songs.
You requested this so.
I did, I love this song.
And I'm going to say this right now, I would not do this for anybody.
Well, I am blessed that you will do this.
I'm just such a fan of yours.
When you wrote this song, is there any particular memory of writing it?
How this comes to you?
The song actually took a little while to write.
It was actually originally in a different key.
I think it was, instead of like [F#] this part, [C#] it was [E] kind of like.
[B]
[F#] [E] [B]
I kind of have some kind of demo of it from maybe 94, but no lyrics, anything.
How does it work for you?
Obviously, you get the music first, so you don't have any lyrics.
You go, okay, I hear this chord progression in my head.
Honestly, I don't have a lot of memory [N] of writing this song.
I remember what I was thinking, which was that, for example, the song pays a little
bit of homage to Cheap Trick.
I love Cheap Trick.
One of the great rock and roll bands.
And Cheap Trick occasionally would have this kind of dark, optimistic thing.
They'd sing about something that seemed kind of bright, but inside was kind of dark.
Like Daddy's alright, Mommy's alright, but they just seem a little.
Heaven Tonight is an example.
I think I was kind of thinking a little bit of that Cheap Trick vibe, where it's like,
it's on the surface, it seems kind of hopeful and stuff and idealistic, but if you kind
of dig into the lyric a little bit, it's got some darkness in it.
Yeah, because you think about it, it does sound hopeful, this song.
But I do get depressed, which is cool when I hear it.
When we had the song, I mean, I thought it was a good song, but I never would have guessed
it turned out to be what it's become.
I mean, it's become basically a classic in a way that's almost probably more important
than any other song I've ever written.
Oh, it's fantastic.
It's a generational marker or something, you know, it reminds people of times.
And that's a good feeling.
I never would have guessed that when I wrote it, for sure.
I'd love to hear you do it.
Here's the great Billy Corgan doing one of his [F#] classics.

[F#] You can never ever leave without leaving [D#m] a piece of you.
[B] [F#] And our lives are forever changed.
We will never be [B] the same.
[F#] The more you change, [D#m] the less you feel.
[B] Believe, [F#]
believe in me.
[B] [F#] Believe, believe [C#] [D#m] that
[G#m] life can [B] change, that you're not [F#] stuck in [C#] vain.
[D#m] You're [G#m] not the same, [B] you're different.
Tonight, [F#] [C#]
[B] oh, [F#]

[D#m] tonight, [G#m] so bright.
[B] [F#] [C#] Tonight, [F#] [C#] tonight, [D#m]

tonight.
[C#] [D#m] [G#m] We'll make things right, [B] we'll feel it [F#] all tonight.
[C#] [D#m] We'll [G#m]
find a way to [B] offer up [F#] the night, [C#] [D#m] tonight.
The [G#m]
indescribable [B] moments of [F#] your life.
[C#] [D#m] [G#m] The impossible [B] is possible [F#] [C#] tonight.
[D#m] [G#m] Believe in me, I [B] believe in you.
Tonight, [F#]
[B] tonight, [F#] tonight, tonight, tonight.
[C#] [D#m]
Fantastic.
Oh, thank you.
Oh my goodness, that is just beautiful.
