Start Jamming...
Hi, my name is Mickey Adams, and I'd like to welcome you to my YouTube channel
This is [G] the week after the TSGA meeting in Dallas
And I'd like to thank each and every [Ab] one of you that joined us in the MSA room or just at the [F] TSGA meeting in
General we want to thank you for all your support
Happy to be affiliated with MSA pedal steel guitars.
We're building some absolutely insane guitars
And we now [Db] have Travis toy on board.
We now have Jody [G] Cameron on board and
We're happy to have [Cm] them as well
I [Db] promise this video.
This is Tia Goins
Walk out [G] backwards and Mike Johnson is playing steel on the [Cm] centra and
Let's get started
[B] [Gb]
[B]
[G]
[Gb] That's beautiful
Before I get started hey check this out easy slide by basil Henriquez
I'm waiting on four or five more of these actually
[F]
[B] [Bb] [B]
Looks pretty simple
You know one of the fundamental things that we [G] have to learn in the pedal steel is it's about [F] timing when we're moving from
no pedals into pedals or
[N] With pedals into no pedals
It's about the timing when the pedals move in relation to the bar
And when we reach our desired [D] location a lot of times we can reach a location with one pedal already engaged
and then engage another pedal which we refer to as a pivot or
[Eb] The opposite [A] would be true
We could have the pedals engaged here and slide down here and [N] have one pedal and
released and one still engaged and release it and
The combinations are basically endless as to where we are
Engaging or disengaging our pedals as we move and these timing
[F] Nuances can make all the [Cm] difference in the world in the emotion [F] in a specific phrase
Let me demonstrate
[E] In a move from here with no [Ebm] pedals into here with the a and B [Ab] pedals
And this is a minor third [D] move so from 12 down to 9 or a whole step and [Eb] a half step so
[Ebm] We can pivot in so [C] many different ways
[Gb] This is the B [E] pedal being stabbed
[Db]
the a pedal being stabbed
[Eb] [F] Raised reengaged and [Ab] pivoted Okay
[Gb]
[Bb] [A] [B]
[C] now this
[Ab] simple intro is
If [A]
[E] you want to get [Ab] really down to it, this is actually a slide
[B] And this is [Gb] a slur now this slur [C] with the B and C pedals
I look at it [E] two ways one.
I'm gonna use a minor third
[B]
Again it's about timing
[Ebm] pedals [B] down
[E] That was up that was down pedals up
[G] Now we're playing thirds at position number 14 in this particular intro
[E]
[Ab]
position number 14 3 & [G] 5
pedals and pedals [E] up
pedals open at 12 twice
[Eb] Now slide to [F] 9 then engage [A] the pedals and release them at [Ab] 5
[A]
Slide the [Ab] 7 now we're gonna move [Dbm] over to the B and C pedals
[Ebm] This is 7 6 7 9
Now [B] a slur
8 7
[E]
Or the major third slide
[F] It's just a different inversion
[B]
From here the fiddles are gonna [Ebm] play on the beat
[Dbm]
[B] We're gonna play
[E]
[Abm] [C] This is an alternating pattern with strings 3 & 4 and then string [Gb] 5 with a thumb
It's a pull push pull push
Now as we [E] descend from 14 down to 12, we're gonna engage the a pedal so this [Eb] note
Stays constant.
This is a common move
[B] [G] So we're gonna play 3 & 4 then 5
[C] a pedal engage a
[E]
Pedal back up.
We're gonna move down the string group to [Gb] 4 5 & 6
[Dbm] Then engage the a pedal again
[B] And we're gonna resolve to this B
This is B majors major third and root [Abm] interval.
So this dyad is actually [Ab] implying B major
[Abm]
[B]
That's it.
Thanks [C] for joining me here on my youtube channel.
