Baby, I Love Your Way Lesson - Peter Frampton chords
Start Jamming...
Hi all today, we're gonna do a lesson on
baby, I love your way from friends that comes alive and
We're ready to do it.
It sounds like it's in
Some kind of open tuning, but it's not it's in standard tuning because you have those a couple of strings that kind of ring
open through the
The intro and verse parts, but it is standard
so what we'll do is I'll play along with the intro and then I'll stop it and then
Show you how that was done, and we'll just go through the different sections of it so [G] start in
Standard tuning like that your he is [E] tuned to this
[A] [D] [Em]
[G] That's the tuning so we'll we'll get right into it so hang tight.
I'll show [N] you how the little intro goes now
[G] All
[C#] [G]
[Em] [G]
[D] [Em] right
[C] [Bm] [Am]
[G] [N]
[G] start up here with this and if [C#] you don't know
Techniques on muting strings you'll have to
Do a little bit of that for the song so you'll learn that um
You're muting the [E] both E strings as you do this so when you go up to the very first chord you're at the B string
At the 12th fret [G] and the a string at the 10th fret and the to the D and the G
in between ring open and
You'll see I'm mute the high E string that the sorry the bass E string
With [E] my thumb, and I'm muting the high [F] E string with my pinky
[D#] It's the pinkies fretting the B string, but the fleshy kind of part [G#m] is
[G] Muting that high so we when you're strung
You can kind of strum the whole thing without [F] worrying about
[G] Hitting those two E strings like [D] [G] that so you start on the 12th fret on the B 10th fret on the a
then it walks down to [F#] 9th on the [D] a [G] and
10th on the B, so there's [N] when you start
There's a fret an open fret in between them on the next chord.
There's no open fret in between them
So it's those two [B] strings a and B
[G] Then [D]
[C] that whole fingering [Em] moves down two frets
So now you're that this
Same [G] two fingers on the same two strings
Now [A]
[G]
you're up to the fifth fret on the a string and the seventh fret on the B.
So now there is again
There's an empty fret between them still muting all those the E strings
fret in between
no fret in [Em] between
no fret in between
So [C] [G]
then it goes back to a fret in between here and then move that [Gm] entire thing down two frets
So now [C] you're right in the third fret and the fifth fret [G] on the same two strings.
So still we're just
Then [A] [Em]
[G] [C]
[A] [D] it goes to this.
This is really a [Bm] B minus seven
[N] But do you play you play it like that?
So your a is that your your thumb is fretting the B note up at the seventh fret and then you're all the way across
[C#] And your a string is just muted
[Bm] So I am hitting that bass e string all those other ones across and I'm muting the a string with my thumb there
So you can do it a nice full strut
[Em] So [C] [Bm]
[Am] and the next [A] chord you let the a ring open
That's an a minus seven basically.
It's this
[E] [Am] That sort of
But it's just a and then fret all the way across DGB and E strings [C] at the fifth fret.
[E] Don't
You're not [Bm] really strumming that bass e string.
So it's
[Am] [Em]
so that one that [C] last chord of the intro [G] you go from this that a minor 7 chord
Then switch so that the D strings now open so you're fretting across the G B and E strings and then
Hit the E string two frets up at the seventh fret so it's this chord
[A] Exactly.
You [Am] can strum that a note too
Then [G]
it starts back at the top again, and we'll go through the the verse part
[F#m] [Em]
Just like the intro
[C]
All [Cm] right, [D#] that's where it gets different from the intro
[F] [G] [C] And they're moving
Across [G] [F] [D#] the page.
So that chord is I don't even know what it's called some someone who's smart.
I'm sure we'll chime in.
Please [N] do
that that you're at the
You're at the eighth fret on the G B and E strings with your ring finger
Then your pointer [F] finger is on the D string at the seventh fret
[C#] Then your middle finger is back to the eighth fret on the a string.
So you're not playing that low
[F] Kind [C#] of an e chord it's [A] that you know, Jimmy Page uses it's [F] that chord that was sort of James Brown ish chord
So you hit that?
across the page
[G]
Go through it [F] again back to the intro part
[G] [F#m] [Em]
Back to the intro part
[C]
Then that same chord we just did
[F]
[Bm]
[D] That's that B minor 7 that we did [Bm] a minute ago all the way across at the
Seventh fret on the DBG and E strings mute that a with your thumb and then fret the bass eat like this
[E] He's gonna go to an E7 which is a C7 and you bring it up to D7 well now it's an easy
And you just [A] have to don't fret that [E] just mute it
Again you're muting both [A#] E strings your mute that E string with the fleshy part [G] of that finger and then mute that one with your thumb
So that's fifth fret [E] if you don't know how to play that chord fifth fret on the B string
On your pink with your pinky you're doing seventh fret on the G you do
Sixth fret with your middle finger and then back to seventh fret with your ring finger.
[Bm] So it goes
[F] [E]
[Am] Back to that a7 that we just did during the intro up at the fifth fret a minor 7
Barring all the way across DGB and E and leave the a open
[C] Your love [E] won't wait
[D] [C#m] Sorry, so it goes B [Bm] minus L to [E] E7 to [Am] a minor 7 [D] to D7
[Bm] That's that same chord shape.
We just did here just move it down two frets again still muting those
[B] E-strings, so we'll see how it [Bm] actually
[F] [G]
[F#m] [Em] It's not
[C] And
[F]
[Bm] [E] that's [Am]
[D]
[G] [D]
[Am] [C] [G]
the course it goes G baby [D] ID love your [Am] way a [C] minor up to C back [G] to G
[D]
[Am] [C] And [G] [D]
[Am] [C] [G] then back to the beginning
Where [N] that keyboard solo comes in that's all the parts there are to the song
And it's just a question of putting it out and playing along with it
But those are all the chords and all the all the strumming patterns to it and just repeats in sections

_ _ [A] _ [D] _ _ [Em] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [G] That's the tuning so we'll we'll get right into it so hang tight.
I'll show [N] you how the little intro goes now
_ [G] All _ _ _
[C#] _ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
[Em] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _ _ _
[D] _ _ [Em] right _ _ _ _
_ [C] _ _ _ [Bm] _ _ _ [Am] _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [N] _
_ _ [G] _ start up here with this and if [C#] you don't know
_ _ Techniques on muting strings you'll have to
Do a little bit of that for the song so you'll learn that um
You're muting the [E] both E strings as you do this so when you go up to the very first chord you're at the B string
At the 12th fret [G] and the a string at the 10th fret and the to the D and the G
in between ring open and
You'll see I'm mute the high E string that the sorry the bass E string
With [E] my thumb, and I'm muting the high [F] E string with my pinky
_ [D#] _ It's the pinkies fretting the B string, but the fleshy kind of part [G#m] is
[G] Muting that high so we when you're strung
You _ can kind of strum the whole thing without [F] worrying about
[G] Hitting those two E strings like [D] _ _ [G] that so you start on the 12th fret on the B 10th fret on the a
then _ _ it walks down to [F#] 9th on the [D] a [G] and
_ 10th on the B, so there's [N] when you start
There's a fret an open fret in between them on the next chord.
There's no open fret in between them
So it's those two [B] strings a and B
[G] _ _ _ Then [D] _ _
[C] that whole fingering [Em] moves down two frets
So _ _ _ now you're that this
Same [G] two fingers on the same two strings
_ Now [A] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ _
you're up to the fifth fret on the a string and the seventh fret on the B.
So now there is again
There's an empty fret between them still muting all those the E strings _ _
fret in between
no fret in [Em] between
no fret in between
So _ [C] _ [G]
then it goes back to a fret in between here and then move that [Gm] entire thing down two frets
So now [C] you're right in the third fret and the fifth fret [G] on the same two strings.
So still we're just
Then [A] _ _ _ [Em] _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ [C] _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ [D] _ _ it goes to this.
This is really a [Bm] B minus seven
_ [N] But do you play you play it like that?
So your a is that your your thumb is fretting the B note up at the seventh fret and then you're all the way across
[C#] And your a string is just muted
[Bm] So _ _ _ I am hitting that bass e string all those other ones across and I'm muting the a string with my thumb there _
So _ you can do it a nice full strut _ _
_ _ [Em] So [C] _ _ _ [Bm] _
_ _ _ [Am] _ _ and the next [A] chord you let the a ring open
That's an a minus seven basically.
It's this
_ _ [E] _ [Am] That sort of _
But it's just a and then fret all the way across DGB and E strings [C] at the fifth fret.
[E] Don't _
You're not [Bm] really strumming that bass e string.
So it's _
[Am] _ _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _
so that one that [C] last chord of the intro [G] you go from this that a minor 7 chord
_ _ Then switch so that the D strings now open so you're fretting across the G B and E strings and then
Hit the E string two frets up at the seventh fret so it's this chord _ _
_ [A] Exactly.
You [Am] can strum that a note too _
Then _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ it starts back at the top again, and we'll go through the the verse part
_ [F#m] _ _ _ [Em] _ _
Just like the intro
_ _ [C] _ _ _ _
All [Cm] _ _ _ right, [D#] that's where it gets different from the intro
[F] _ [G] _ [C] And they're moving _
Across [G] _ [F] _ [D#] the page.
So that chord is I don't even know what it's called some someone who's smart.
I'm sure we'll chime in.
Please [N] do
that that you're at the
_ _ You're at the eighth fret on the G B and E strings with your ring finger
Then your pointer [F] finger is on the D string at the seventh fret
[C#] Then your middle finger is back to the eighth fret on the a string.
So you're not playing that low
_ [F] Kind _ _ [C#] of an e chord it's [A] that you know, Jimmy Page uses it's _ [F] that chord that was sort of James Brown ish chord _
So you hit that?
across the page
_ [G] _
_ Go through it [F] again back to the intro part
_ [G] _ _ _ _ [F#m] _ _ [Em]
Back _ to the intro part
[C] _ _
Then that same chord we just did
[F] _ _ _
_ _ _ [Bm] _ _ _ _ _
[D] _ That's that B minor 7 that we did [Bm] a minute ago all the way across at the
Seventh fret on the DBG and E strings mute that a with your thumb and then fret the bass eat like this _ _
_ _ [E] _ He's gonna go to an E7 which is a C7 _ and you bring it up to D7 well now it's an easy
_ _ _ And you just [A] have to don't fret that [E] just mute it _ _
Again you're muting both [A#] E strings your mute that E string with the fleshy part [G] of that finger and then mute that one with your thumb
So that's fifth fret [E] if you don't know how to play that chord fifth fret on the B string
_ On your pink with your pinky you're doing seventh fret on the G you do _ _ _
Sixth fret with your middle finger and then back to seventh fret with your ring finger.
_ [Bm] So it goes _ _ _
_ _ [F] _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
[Am] _ _ Back to that a7 that we just did during the intro up at the fifth fret a minor 7
_ Barring all the way across DGB and E and leave the a open _ _
[C] Your love [E] won't wait
[D] _ [C#m] Sorry, so it goes B [Bm] minus L to [E] E7 to [Am] a minor 7 [D] to D7
[Bm] That's that same chord shape.
We just did here just move it down two frets again still muting those
[B] E-strings, so we'll see how it [Bm] actually
_ [F] _ _ _ _ [G] _ _
_ [F#m] _ _ [Em] It's not _ _
_ _ _ [C] And _ _ _
_ [F] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[Bm] _ _ _ _ _ _ [E] that's _ _ _ _ _ [Am] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ _ _ _ [D] _ _
_ [Am] _ _ _ [C] _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ the course it goes G baby [D] ID love your [Am] way a [C] minor up to C back [G] to G
_ [D] _ _
[Am] _ _ [C] And _ [G] _ _ [D] _
_ [Am] _ [C] _ [G] then back to the beginning
Where [N] that keyboard solo comes in that's all the parts there are to the song
And it's just a question of putting it out and playing along with it
But those are all the chords and all the all the strumming patterns to it and just repeats in sections
