Hey guys, my name is Thomas Michael, and I want to show you how to play this song amazing great
I [Ebm] want to show you how to play this three four and I'm gonna show [Eb] you how to play it in four four
Both very useful ways to play the song so we're gonna use three chords [G] and these chords we got G
We've got [C] C
but you can [Bm] also play the C add nine and
Please check the screen for a chord notation [D] and then the D chord so we've got three chords
G
C add nine
B
so the three four feel of amazing grace is
[Eb] One two three one two three you got three beats per measure
We're gonna simply strum down down down up down [A] down down [G] up so it kind of has this feel
So
[C] [G] what I'm doing is drumming on the bass note for the first beat of this drum like this
And then two and three I'm going somewhere in the middle of strings between like string five and three just sort of
And then on the end on the three and on the upstroke
I'm just kind of strumming the first two strings.
I don't like that so it sounds like this
[D]
[Ab] So for the progression of amazing grace.
It's not like four chords cycled over and over
We've only got three chords
But there's a bit of a pattern to it
And it's not a long pattern and then the song just repeats over and over with different lyrics as you probably know
so I'm gonna play now one time through just kind of follow along you know the chords and
You know playing in three four
So kind of follow along and then just start and stop as many times as you need to
So look at the chord shapes and or the progression and you're gonna want to [G] actually just memorize this progression
It won't take you that long so here.
We go in three four amazing grace one two three
Amazing grace how sweet
the sound that
saved her
[D]
[G] [G]
[D] [G]
You can totally use the d7 in there instead of a [D] regular D the d7 looks like this
Again I'll put the notation on the screen so you can see the d7 shape has more of a tension
Kind of a feel to it that really wants to resolve from the d7
[G] Back to the G.
Which is your home?
[N] Okay, that's amazing grace in three four and just play that over and over get used to that
Once you get really good at strumming it, and then you can just start singing with it
it's a lot of fun really enjoyable the lyrics have a great meaning and
Like I said you can you can do the song in so many styles and really have fun with it
So in four four what's going on is I mean you're opening up a whole lot of possibilities with strumming patterns
It's played in conjunction with another song you know amazing grace my chains are gone Chris Tomlin song
So I'm gonna show you just one way to play it.
It's more of an upbeat strumming pattern.
I think you can slow it down
Completely up to you, and then you'll learn it and kind of have your own thing going on with it eventually so the strumming pattern
I'm using for the four four version of amazing grace, and there are many ways to do this
This is just one keep in mind is a down down up down up
and I'll you've got the arrows on the screen you can see that right now and
Stop it and take a look at that pattern again.
It's a down down up down up so
following the exact same progression
We're just gonna make it a four four feel so we've got the four beats now into the three
We're going one two three four or one two three four
However fast you want to do it?
[G] Again, I'm gonna play the G chord
I'm gonna play the C add nine, and I'm gonna play [D] the D and like I said you can also play the d7
[G] So the feel now is like this
[D]
[G] Down down up up [A] down up down up down up down [Em] up down up down up and it just cycles over and over like that so
Singing it through
[G] Singing and playing it through one time it would sound like this
And what I do is I strum on the G chord about a measure or two and then I come in singing
So you can you know start whenever you want whenever you want to start singing as long as once you begin singing you follow the
Progression so that the melody that you're singing matches with the chords so it sounds like this
[D]
[G]
[D] I
Would
[G]
[Bb] just start back over and you got new new singing their new lyrics
So anyway, and you see there.
I ended [D] that with the
[G] [Ab] Gandhi the d7 going [N] on so that's amazing grace with three chords
Hope this has been a really helpful tutorial on how to play amazing grace now
