Start Jamming...
Hey there guitar buddies, let's have a look at Chris Rea on the beach.
[F]
So it starts with a little muted guitar lick.
So I'm just playing C, Eb, [Cm] C, 10, [N] 8, 10 and then two F's on 10.
So on the D string 10, G string 8, D string 10, then two [F] 10's on the G string.
[B] C, Eb, [F] C, F, F.
[C] [F] With a little slide to that C, [N] that first note.
Okay and then over that I've [Cm] got
[B]
[G]
[B] [F] [C] [B]
So I'm playing the [C] C, a little slide to a C on 13.
Then Eb on 16 of the B string.
[B]
Two more Eb's, [D] C again, then F on the D string on 15.
[B] [Fm]
[B] [Fm]
[B] And then [Cm] C, Eb, C again.
13, 16, [Fm] 13.
And [Bb] then landing back on that F.
[G] [B] It's just three notes and [Ab]
[G] [C] [B]
[F] [G]
the chords played under that when [Fm]
[Db]
the
[C] [Fm]
So [C] this chord just [Fm] go around and that's an F minor 7, D flat major 7, [C] C7.
And on the last time rather than play a C7 we just hold on a nice jazzy chord.
[E] Okay before the song changes into the verse we've got [C] C7 flat sharp 5.
So it's sharp 5.
So C, B [Fm] flat, E natural and then a G sharp.
That's our sharp [C] 5.
Very jazzy.
Okay.
[Fm]
[Db] [E]
[Eb] Okay and [Fm] then we're into the first chords and the chords play twice around before the verse
kicks in.
So it's a similar chord sequence.
This time we're going F minor 7 [G] [C] and [G] then G minor
flat 5, G minor 7 flat 5.
[C] Then our C7 sharp 5.
[Fm] [C]
[Fm] Okay so that sequence plays twice through [G] and [C] [Fm]
[G] [Bb]
then the verse kicks in and it plays six more [Fm] times.
[G] [E] [Fm]
[G] [C] And then the chords change for the pre [Ebm]-chorus.
[Bbm] [Cm]
[Db] [Eb]
Back [Fm]
into [Db] [E]
[N] the chords what we played on the intro.
Okay [Bbm] so
[Cm]
[Db] So [Eb] that's
[Em] four chords take us to the chorus [Bbm] and that's B flat minor 7, B flat minor 7,
[Cm] C minor 7, [Db] D flat major 7.
[Eb] [Fm] Back [B] into the chorus.
[Fm] Those chords from before [Db] F minor,
[Gm] D flat major 7, [N] C7 with the lick on top.
Okay and there's a little break near the end where we get.
[Db]
[Abm] [Bbm]
[Abm]
[Bbm] [Abm]
[Bbm] [Abm]
[Bbm] [C]
[Fm] Okay so [E] on that break the chords are [Abm] just playing the top part of an A flat minor 4.
[Bbm]
[C] Then going to a B flat [Bbm] minor.
[Abm] [Bbm]
[B] [Bbm]
[C] [Db] Then playing a B flat [C] minor, [Bbm] minor 7 [C] and a [Fm] C7 taking us back [G] into our
[E] verse chords.
[Abm] Okay [G] so just on that little bass breakdown there's a little bit of guitar.
Very
low in the [Abm] mix.
[Bbm]
[Cm] Okay and towards the end a harmony guitar comes in over the top of this lick.
[B]
[G] And the harmony guitar is playing.
[Cm]
[B] [Abm] [Eb]
[G] [B]
[Eb] So it's playing E flat, G so
[D] 16 and then 15 [Eb] on the top string.
[Cm] E flat and C [B] on [C] 17.
[B] Then E flat, G, E flat 16, 15, 16.
[Abm] Then finishing on an A flat 16 on the E [G] string.
[Abm] [Eb] Okay that harmonizes with.
[B] [G]
Okay so a great song to play on the beach.
