Andy with you for another song [N] lesson.
Today we're taking a look at Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive Great Disco Classic.
I'm going to be showing you two angles on this.
Doing it with open chords like I did there and then the back chords as well.
So you can kind of do it band wise or you can play it solo and it gives you options.
Check out the chart.
It's great to have that for future reference there.

Cool, fun lessons that aren't available here on YouTube that I send direct to your email inbox.
A bunch of other cool things as well that you can get there on that page.
So let's zoom in and have a look at the chords that we've got going on.
I'm going to look at the open chord way to start with because that's the easier way.
So mostly just standard open chords that we've got in here.
We've got A [Am] minor, [F] D minor,
[Dm] G,
[G] C, [C]
[F] F.
You can do it as a full bar chord or just a little smaller version.
B, [B]
another bar chord.
[A] E sus4.
Now if you [Db] set up just your normal E chord then add your fourth finger on there on the G string [E] second fret.
And then your regular old E.
[Bbm] There you go.
Let's run those [Am] again.
A minor, [Dm] D minor, [G] G, C, [C]
[F] F, [B] B, E [E] sus4, E.
[Am]
[Dm] And that [Em] very first [N] freaky freaky deaky intro section basically [E] is [B] an E.
You can get a little jazzier about it.
You can put an [E] E7 there.
[Bb] Which is basically your E chord but you [Eb] can add in your fourth finger there on the B string [E] third fret.
[Am] Well, if you're still wiser [Gb] free.
So you can do that little lead in there.
So you can interpret this how you want.
This song is very much about the chords.
You can do it as a pick and [A] thing.
[Am] [D]
[G] [N] You can really do your own twist on it.
So that's where I'm going to leave it for the open chords.
And we can look at a little bit more of what's actually happening in the original, the whole disco vibe, as we do it now with our bar chords.
So, bar chords.
[A] A minor, we're up on the fifth fret.
5, 7, 7, 5, 5, 5.
The E string on the top there.
[Dm] D minor from the A string.
5, 7, 7, 6, 5.
G.
[G] It's going to be 3, 5, 5, 4, 3, 3.
For your frets.
From the E string.
[Bb] C is going to be from the [C] A string.
3, 5, 5, 5.
With your bar with your third finger there.
[A] F.
Same as [F] before.
1, 3, 3, 2, 1, 1.
Or just the smaller [Db] version from the D string.
[F] It's going to be 3, 2, 1, 1 for your frets.
B [Bbm] is going to be from your A [B] string.
Second fret.
4, 4, 4.
Same shape as we did for the C.
2, 4, 4, 4.
[Bb] And then the E [E] sus4.
Now [B] you can actually do this [G] further up.
I might as well show you a [A] different variation.
[E] We're going to do this on the 7th fret.
[A] So from the [E] A string.
7, 9, 9.
And then you've got that third finger there barred over the 9 again.
But you're going to put your fourth finger on the 10th fret on the B.
And I am going a little fast, [D] but that's what the scrolly button's for.
So you can go back if you [E] need to.
[A] And from there take away [E] your fourth finger for your regular E.
[B]
So, a bit of [Em] funk disco groove.
[Am]
[Dm] [G]
[C] [F]
[B] [A]
[E] [A] So what am I doing there?
[B]
There's lots of different ways we can twist [A] this.
[B] First of all, the thing that I [A] will mention as well is [Am] that originally, if you're playing in the band situation,
all you're really going to be doing is playing these bottom three strings.
So that's a way you can interpret it as well.
But, back to the rhythm.
