Hey everyone, I'm Abby [C#m] Lyons and I'm going to show you how to play You've Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story written by Randy Newman.
There's a [C#m] lead sheet in the [N] description if you want to download that and follow along.
So we've got a good amount of chords in the song.
They're all down here.
If you already know them, then feel free to skip ahead.
So our first chord is C.
You're just going to put your third finger on the third fret of the first string.
[C] Here's C.
Then our next chord is [B] called G augmented.
You're going to put your first finger [N] on the second fret of the first string,
then your second finger on the third fret of the third string, and your third [C#m] finger on the third fret of the second string.
Here's G augmented.
[G] [Cm] [C] Then our next chord is C7.
You'll put your first finger on the first fret of the first string.
Here's C7.
[B] Then our next chord is F.
You'll [D] put your first finger on the first fret of the second string, and your second finger on the second fret of the fourth string.
Here's [F] F.
[C] Then [B] we've got D7.
So you'll put your first finger on the second fret of the fourth string, and your second finger on the second fret of the second string.
[E] Here's D7.
[C] Then our next chord is E7.
You'll [D] put your first finger on the first fret of the fourth string, your second finger on the second fret of the third string, [C#] and your third finger on the second fret of the first string.
Here's E7.
[C#m]
[Am] Then we've got A minor.
You'll just put your second finger on the second fret [F#m] of the fourth string.
Here's A [Am] minor.
[A] Then we've got G.
You'll put your first finger [D] on the second fret of the third string, fourth finger on the second fret of the first string, and your third [C#] finger on the third fret of the second string.
Here's G.
[G]
[D] Then we've got A7.
You'll put your first finger on the first fret of the third string.
Here's [A] A7.
[D] Then we've got B7.
You'll put your first finger on the second fret of the second string, second finger on the third fret of the third string, and your [A#] third finger on the fourth fret of the fourth string.
[B] And here's B7.
[C#]
[D] Then we have E [B] minor.
You're going to take this shape and just scoot all the fingers over by one string.
And then here's E minor.
And then our very last chord is D minor.
You're going to put your first finger on the first fret of the second string, second finger on the second fret of the fourth string, and your third finger on the second fret of the third string.
Here's [Dm] D minor.
And those are all of our chords.
[C#] For our strumming pattern, we're just going to do down, down, up.
Here's what that sounds [C] like.
Down, down, up.
Yay!
[A] So we're going to start the verse off with a C chord.
[C] We've got down, down, up.
Then we [A#] go to our G [G] augmented.
[C]
We have C7.
[B] And then in our second line, we're going to go to [F] F.
And then [Am] D7.
[D] And then C.
[C]
And C7 again.
So that might sound like this.
You've [D#] got a friend in [C] me.
[F] You've got a [F#] friend
[C]
in me.
So then our next part, we've got four chords.
We're going to go to [F] F.
[C] And C.
[E] And then E7.
And then [Am] A minor.
And that [D] gets repeated three times.
So [A#] here's what that sounds [F] like.
[C] When we're on the [E] road [Am] ahead.
And you're [F] miles [C] and miles from [E] a nice [Am] warm bed.
[F]
You [C] just remember what [E] your old [Am] pal said.
[B] And then in our next part, we've [E] got D7.
And [G] then G.
[C] And then C.
And [A] A7.
And [C#] then that gets repeated, [C] except we [C#] don't play A7 [Gm] on the song.
[F#]
[G] [C]
[B]
So [N] here's that ending part of the verse.
For [F#] you, [G] my friend [C] in me.
[A] [F#] [G] You've got to love [C] me.
[B] And then that verse gets [C] repeated.
And then we go into the bridge.
So [A#] now going into the bridge, [C#] we're going to start with F.
With two [F] F chords.
So down, down, down, down.
And then two [B] B7 chords.
Down, down, down.
[G] And then there's one C chord.
[C]
And [C#] one B7 chord.
And then two more [C] on C.
So hit that much.
[F]
Some of the folks might [B] be a little bit smarter than I am.
[C] Bigger and stronger [C] than you, too.
Maybe.
And [E] then we're going to go to [B] four B7 chords.
We're on it for a while.
And then [D#m] we're going to go to [Em] one E minor chord.
[A] Then A7.
[Dm]
D minor.
[G] And then G.
So [C#] here's the second half of the bridge.
[B]
But [D#] none of us will ever love [Em] you the way [A] we do.
[Dm] Just me and you.
[G] Boring.
And then after the [C] bridge, you would go back to the verse.
And that's how you play You've Got a Friend in Me.
