Today, we are doing a piano tutorial [A#] on JJ Harrison's You Deserve It.
Awesome gospel worship song.
So we're going to take this apart so you know how to play it.
It is in F [F#] sharp major.
I know that's everybody's favorite key to play in.
I know for some of us that was definitely sarcastic.
But the actual song and the chorus is not too complex.
So we're going to take this apart so you know how to play this song.
Alright, so we're going to [N] start with the intro.
The cool thing is the intro is pretty much like the chorus.
So if you know the chords and the melody flow for the introduction, then you pretty much have the chorus.
Alright, good news, right?
Alright, so as you know, when it opens up, it starts with the melody of You [D#m] Deserve It.
So that's going to be starting here in the right hand.
And we're starting with the framework of the F sharp major chord.
So we have F sharp, A sharp.
So it starts there, then it goes to [F] here, which is [Fm] F and G sharp.
Then it [D#m] goes to D sharp and F.
And then the F [F#] sharp major chord.
F sharp, A sharp, C sharp.
So that's the first time around.
Then it goes back again here.
F sharp, A [C#] sharp, F, G sharp, [D#m] D, F sharp.
And then it goes back up.
And that is a C sharp major chord.
It's just inverted.
But you have G sharp, C sharp, and F.
Okay?
[F] So let me go slow again.
[D#m] F sharp major, [C#] C sharp major, B, [F#] F sharp major.
Alright, I just named the chord structures there.
[D#m] Alright, then you have F sharp [F] major, C sharp [D#m] major, B [C#] major, C sharp major.
Alright, now the left hand is pretty much going to mimic the right hand by playing whatever the bass note says.
If you have a bass player, this may not be necessary.
You may be just doing some fill-ins up here.
But if you are soloing this on the piano, this may be important to you.
Alright?
So [F#] you start off here.
Alright?
And then it goes down, U, [B] D.
Alright, you're going to hit a B [F#] here.
And then an F sharp for the F sharp major chord.
[B] Then back to B, [C#] C sharp major.
Okay?
So just the left hand by itself, you have [B] U, D, ZERV, [F#] IT, 3, 4.
[B] U, D, ZERV, [C#] IT.
Alright?
So [F#] B, F sharp, [C#] B, C sharp.
Alright?
So now let's put it together.
And I'll take it slow.
So [F] you have [B] [F#]
3, 4.
[C#] Okay?
Alright?
And then if you put it in context.
[F#] [B] [C#] Alright? Alright?
And you know, if you put it on your level, you may only [G] be able to do that.
But if you want to put in some fill-ins and stuff [F] with the chord structure,
[F#] [C#]
[F#] [C#] you can do something like that.
Okay?
[D#] Alright.
Now, let's talk about the verse.
Alright, now in the verse, the good thing is, you've already learned a lot of the chords for the verse.
But we do have [C] a new chord that's in the verse that is not in that introduction that I just showed you.
Alright?
So it's going to start on a B major chord.
B [B] is always B, D sharp, F sharp.
Okay?
And now, for [F#] the sake of this song, I always like to include the [C#] C sharp.
So it gives like this crushed sound.
Okay?
And we're going to [B] double it with the left hand.
Alright?
The second chord [C#] in sequence will be a C sharp major chord.
Okay?
So that's C sharp, F, G sharp, C sharp.
Okay?
[C] Then it goes to a D sharp minor chord.
Alright?
So of course it's [D#] starting on D sharp minor, D sharp, [D#m] F sharp, [D#] A sharp, D sharp. Okay?
So let's put it in context so you know.
So you [B] have, my hallelujah [G#] belongs to [D#m] you.
Okay?
Let me do that one more [B] time.
My hallelujah [C#] belongs to [D#m] you.
Alright?
[D#] That's the first time.
Alright, then the second time when they say my hallelujah belongs to you,
the same, they start with the same [B] B chord.
Alright?
B, D, F sharp.
Alright?
And then [C#] it goes to C sharp like we just did.
C sharp, F, G sharp.
And then it goes to the F sharp major chord after that.
[F#] So I have A sharp, C sharp, F sharp.
[B] So let me go back.
B, [C#]
C [F#] sharp, F sharp major.
Alright?
So let's put it all in sequence.
You [B] have, my hallelujah [C#] belongs to [D#m] you.
[D#] Alright?
Then you gotta break there.
[B] My hallelujah belongs to [F#] you.
Alright?
[B] My hallelujah belongs [C#] to [D#m] you.
Three, four.
[B] My hallelujah belongs [F#] to you.
Alright?
Now if you're listening to the record, you hear this little ad lib that they do.
[B] And it goes something like this.
Okay?
So you might want to add that into your playing.
So I'm going to show you that little run as well. Alright?
[G#m] So you have B and D sharp, [D#] which is basically a B chord.
[F#] C sharp, A sharp.
Okay?
A sharp, F sharp.
F sharp, C sharp.
And [B] then F sharp, D sharp.
Alright?
So let me take it slow.
Da, [F#] dum, ba, dum, [B] bum.
Alright?
[B] Alright?
So let's put it in context.
You have, my hallelujah belongs [D#] to you.
[D#] Three, four.
[B] My hallelujah belongs [C#] to [F#] you.
And then it goes.
[B]
Alright?
Everybody see that?
That's cool, ain't it?
Do, do, [G#m] do, do, [A] do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, [C#m] do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do,
what's up everybody?
