Would Bill Champlin Ever Rejoin Chicago? We Asked Him - INTERVIEW chords
Start Jamming...
We asked Bill Champlin if he'd ever [E] rejoin Chicago.
I'm John Bowden from Rock History Music.
[D] Anyone who [A] has seen the Chicago [Em] documentary on CNN
will know that there's no love lost between Bill [G] Champlin
and Chicago, so we [Em] asked him,
would you ever [D] rejoin that band in a million years?
[A] No.
Those guys cannot [Em]
stand me.
They've [G] got me down as something
that just should have never happened.
[Dm] I don't even want to go into it.
I [A] just don't want to deal with that particular group of people.
[C] I've spent 28 years with them.
That's fine, we're done, that's [Dm] enough.
It's just, you know, [A] there's really no love lost
in that [C] scene.
I haven't talked to one member of that band.
[A] I saw Jason for a little bit after he left,
and then [Bm] I hang out with Tris every once in a while,
because Tris left right [A] about within a year of Jason.
Tris and the quote, the next singer after [A#] Jason,
both bailed out in a couple of days.
Well, [G] that's obviously over forever [D] then.
It kind of pissed people off [Bm] whenever I suddenly
got a hit with them, because then they went,
well, it's going to take that [A] much longer
to get this guy out of here.
[E]
They're very happy playing their [F#] original stuff.
That's what they want to do.
That's how they've [A] wanted to do it.
And they want to play it exactly like the [A] stuff
was recorded and all that's fine and dandy.
And I [E] think it's fine for them.
I mean, I wish them all the best, you know,
[G] and they don't even need it.
They don't need anybody to [D] wish them anything.
Those guys are working all the time.
They're doing great.
Hey, they were just put [A] in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
You know, they're doing [Em] absolutely well.
I just kind of go, there's other [G] music out here
and there's other ways of playing their music.
I know you've got a brand new project, Bill,
called Wonderground, Bleeding Secrets, [Em] brand new album,
and you've got so many projects going on,
but this has got to be your [G] main focus.
There's different kinds of concerts that I do.
[D] And there's some where they really kind of demand,
play the hits, play the hits, play the hits.
Well, I co [C]-wrote two Grammy award winning hits.
So I [Am] almost always play Turn Your Love Around
[C] and After the Love is Gone,
because I was one of the writers on that.
Actually, I was one of the [A] singers.
I was [C] one of the main background singers
on Turn Your Love Around,
which [Bm] me and Jay Graydon and Steve Lukather wrote.
And [A] After the Love is Gone,
they've kind of been using all the parts
that I put [E] together for my demos.
And, you know, so I like to [Em] do that.
I mean, [A] long before I got in [E] Chicago,
I was doing [D] some stuff.
I was involved in some really, really [Am] cool things.
You know, I co-wrote [E] Is It You for Lee Ridenour.
I [G] co-wrote [A] Friends in Love for Deanna Warwick
and Johnny Mathis.
You know, I've been in the ball game here
a little more than just Chicago.
So when I [G] go out and do gigs, you know,
yes, there's some hits.
Hard Habit to Break is a [G] beautiful arrangement
of a great song.
And I sang a good portion of that song.
So I do that.
I mean, if Tamara's with me,
[C] she sings to Tara's part, and I [G] sing my part.
And [C] she tears it up great.
[E] I mean, I did it once with Denise Williams
and she tore it up.
I mean, it's a really, really cool song to sing.
[E] You know, I mean, I'm finding stuff that may be older,
but I'm finding ways of doing it [A] new,
just to do it my way.
I mean, when you hear [D] my version
of Turn Your Love Around, it'll blow your mind.
It really will.
The new [E] project is called [G] Bleeding Secrets.
That's the name of the album.
The project name is Bill Champlin [D] and Wonderground,
featuring many vocalists, [F#] including his wife, Tamara.
