It's almost time for Song of the Mountains again.
Always superior talent in bluegrass and folk fields.
Performing on the national show filmed right here in our area, Hackensaw Boys and Clay Bank, along with the band we have here today and here to talk about their performance.
On that show is the Wilson Band Company.
Thank you all for being here and making the trip up.
From South Carolina, I was reading as a part of your background here, it wasn't even intended that you all were going to be a band at first.
So tell me a little bit about the creation of the band.
It was actually [Db] building banjos and [Ab] doing work on [Eb] banjos.
So that was Wilson Banjo Company.
Started building some and [Bb] did a promotional CD to promote the last model of banjo that was built.
And it [Eb] just took off and did really well and everybody loved the sound.
[Bb] So I had a bunch of friends [N] that I was picking with and we said, you know what, we need to just start playing out.
So it kind of turned into a band and now I think we're playing more than we're building banjos.
For anyone who comes out and sees you or maybe sees this and wants to go to Song of the Mountains, tell me just a little bit about the performance that you all do.
What kind of songs do you perform?
What's that performance like?
We're trying to stick with a [Bb] traditional bass sound [B] with our own kind of twists on things, our own arrangements.
[C] Maybe put a little jazzy feel in here and there [Bbm] and, you know, just [Db] adding our own little [F] with a little bit of an edge, I [B] guess.
And so you all will be performing at Song of the Mountains [Eb] coming up.
What's so special about performing on that show?
It's a huge honor for us to be on.
[Gb]
It's a huge honor.
I mean, [Db] it's just tons of great music comes through there.
Well, I don't want to take any time away from you, so I'll go ahead and let you all play.
I've been here and you practice, [A] so it sounds pretty good so far.
You all ready? Ready.
