Start Jamming...
Today we're going to try to do one with [F] a tune with cross tuning.
That means that the fiddle is tuned [Am] from low to high, A, E, A, E.
Now we've done a [N] couple of these tunes before and if you're adventurous enough to tune your
fiddle that way, it's fine.
Usually nothing happens to the fiddle, it just sounds different actually.
I happen to be lucky enough to have two fiddles so I keep one tuned this way and the other
one standard tuning.
We're going to do a tune called Wild Rose of the Mountain.
It's a very crooked tune.
[Am]
[N] It does also have this call and response, although it's a little different in this one
because it is so crooked.
This is the way it goes, [Am] it's an A.
This is the call.
[G]
[Am] [Em]
[D] [E]
That's the call and then the response.
[F#]
[G#] [Am]
[N] You can see that the last notes of the phrases are extended for a few beats.
That's the [E] A part, so it's not very hard.
[A]
[C] [Em]
[Am] [D#]
[B]
[C#m] [Am]
[B] That's the A part.
The B part is a little extended.
It [A] goes like this.
[F#]
[E]
That's the [F#] call.
This is the response.
[A]
Call.
[C] [B]
[E] [A] [E]
[F#]
[A]
[E] [Am]
[N] That's not a real hard one.
The notes are real easy to play, it's just that it's a little crooked and it takes a
little while to get used to that crooked-ity as Radar might have said.
Anyway, here it [A] goes.
Let
[C#m] [D] [G#]
me stop [F] here because you can see that I'm sliding up with my third finger to hit
[F#] that E, that open E, [N] and play a unison there.
You can use your pinky, it just doesn't matter.
I got used to using my third finger, sometimes I use my pinky.
[E] But going
[N] from that G sharp to the A [E] unison there, I do use the second finger to the third finger.
Here goes the tune, Wild Rose of the Mountain.
