Wide River to Cross - Balsam Range - Buddy Melton's first night back chords
Start Jamming...
We were [E] in the studio, I guess it's been a while, last week.
Now everything has been a blur since Bud Paxon and I'm sure not been there too much.
Buddy [C#] and Carla, it seems silly for us to talk about how it [E] affected us, but it did.
[B]
God knows exactly what he is doing.
[E] He rallied people from all over this world, [A] around not only [A#m] Buddy, but around Balsam Range.
And [A] he sent Eddie Rose right there, who [F] if we ever saw an angel walk [Em] up, what a great singer he is.
You're going to bear witness to [B] that in just a little while.
So much happened [Gm] throughout [Em] this whole process.
It was just, well [A#] Carla said the first night they were in the hospital, she [G] said,
I can feel [D#] those prayers, that touched [D] me.
Standing out in the hospital [A#] hallway [G#] outside of Bud's room, she said, you know I [A] can just feel that.
[E] I can feel it.
And people sent messages over the computer from many different countries, all over this [G] great country.
And it's been an amazing time.
But the most amazing thing, bar none, we were in the studio, we decided, [B] you know,
Buddy got hurt on Monday morning, [F#] was it Monday I guess, and the following Monday,
we were scheduled [D] to start our fourth record [E] in the studio.
We were already [D#] booked and everything, and our record company, most of them are here tonight.
There's three of them sitting right there, our president Mickey [F#m] Gamble is backstage,
and they've [B] been family to me for 30 years.
[G] But they're [A] family to Balsam Range as well, [A] and they're, you know, [E] there's never once a,
[G] well are you guys [F#] coming or are you not coming?
[D] They showed up at the hospital and united in prayer with us.
But [G] we [E] decided, [F#] with this record looming in front of us, and [A] we're excited to get to do it.
[G] You know, the tunes that [F#m] we've been working [F] up, and we were about halfway through the process
of just putting the final touches on them.
We'd been meeting at Buddy's parents' [E] house while they were in Florida, so I told you,
you all didn't know we'd been in there, I'm sorry.
[D] Sorry about the sheet rock, but we'll [Bm] talk about that later.
[A#]
[F] This band runs [D#] on Red Man and caffeine, I might as well tell you about that.
[F#] [A#] We were in the middle of kind of putting everything together, and [C#] we didn't know exactly what to [F#m] do,
but we decided part of having faith is just plowing forward.
[A#] You know, when you don't know what's coming, [F#] and we were determined not [Em] to back up or stop
or even stall [A] out or wait, except wait on the [F] Lord.
And we started in on [Dm] the recording, and [E] we cut the tape, and we started recording,
and we cut a few [D#] tracks, just the four of us [A] while Buddy was still in the hospital.
Well, we [B] got a lot of it [A#m] done, or as much as we [E] could, and we met [D#] last Thursday to work [D] on some more of it
and try to see, Buddy's the [A#] only organized one in the [C#] outfit, the rest of us don't know what songs to play,
don't know which key, don't [F#] know anything, what are the words, [C#] how does it go?
He's the only [E]
organization we have.
And so it's been a
It's very [G] sad.
It is very sad, it's why I just said it.
[C#]
Thanks, honey.
You said, boy, [F#] there's nothing like having a good woman by your side.
About eight or ten miles.
But anyway, she [C#]
handled this situation [D#] before class, and I've seen anybody [E] take a situation in my life, [N] by the way.
Oh, yeah.
[A] Last Thursday when we were recording, and Darren and I were hunkered over the charts [D] and the words,
trying to decide what to do next, Caleb had already sent [A] me a text [D] message saying I'm going to be running a little bit late,
[E] and we didn't think [D#] nothing about it, Caleb's on God's time anyway.
He just showed up late.
[N] [D#] We were hunkered over the
Yeah, his mom [G] said, amen to that, didn't her?
Somebody did.
[C#] Yeah, yeah, I thought so.
Darren and I were looking at those numbers [F#] and the words and looked up,
and there came [D#] Caleb with a big smile on [A] his face, and Buddy Milton walked through the door,
just got out of the hospital, and [D] came walking up through the door to the studio.
And we [G] have a song that we've recorded, but not even sung it [F#] yet in the studio.
We put the music down.
[E] [A] But we've been excited and trying to figure out how to even do this [G] song.
Well, recently there's [A] four verses to it, and we thought, well, let's just [C#] all four of us, the singer and the band, take a verse of it.
It's got beautiful words.
But that night when Buddy went over there and he put [B] those headphones on, I said, I'm going [F#] to do this.
And he sat [E] down there, [C#m] and I knew, I could see by the look [E] on his face, he didn't know what was going to come out.
Boy, we sure did, and we all hit her.
It's good to play the bass sometimes.
[D] You can't see my fat belly, or when [A] I'm scared, I just get behind it, you know.
[D] [Cm] And the words of this song came rolling through the headphones, [B] and I want you to listen to an awesome [D#] song.
And the words of [C] this song came rolling through the headphones, [D#] and I want you to listen to an [A] awesome song.
I think it's going to be something special.
And I [F#] hope you're going to get it.
And [D#] listen to what he's saying, and see what he's going to sing.
[G] I don't [F#] know why, but here it goes.
[G#] [E]
[Em] [E]
[A#] [E]
[C#m] [A]
[E] [A] [E]
But I cannot look back now.
I've come too far [F#m] to [E] turn around.
And [C#m] there's [A] still a race ahead.
I'm [C#m] locking here [A] in cry-white shadow.
Still [E] I'm strong.
[C#] I'm only halfway [Em] home.
[C#] I've got a journey [E] on to the sun.
[A] [E] But [F#m] I know that I'll [A] find the things I [E] have lost.
[A] I've come [C#m] a long [A] [E] way.
[C#m] Still I've got miles to [B] go.
[F#m] I've got a wide, [A] wide river.
[E] I cannot look back now.
I've [A] come too far [E] to cross.
I've
[C#m] [A]
[E]
come too far [F#m] to [E] turn around.
And there's [A] still
[E]
a race ahead.
I have stumbled.
I have strayed.
You [Em] can trace the tracks I've made.
All [C#m] across the [A] memory.
[C#m] There's still [A] a race ahead.
I'm a [E]
heartbreaker.
But I'm just a refugee.
[A] [E] Say a prayer for me.
I'm strong.
[C#m] Sometimes [A] even the strong soldiers [E] fall.
[A]
I'm only halfway [E] home.
[F#] [A] I'm only halfway [E] home.
[A] I've [C#m] got a
[C#m] journey.
I've got a journey [E]
on to the sun.
[F#m] To where I'll [A] find the things that [E] I have lost.
I've come [C#m] a long [A] [B]
way.
Still I've got miles to [E]
go.
[F#m] I've got a wide, [B] wide [A] river to [E] cross.
[F#m] To where I'll find [A] the things [E]
I've lost.
[C#] I've [C#m] come
[B] [E] a long way.
Still I've got [A] miles [E]
to [F#] [E] go.
I've [F#m]
got a [G#] wide, [A] wide river to cross.
I've come [C#m] a [F#m] long way.
[E] [F#]
[E]
[C#m] Still I've got miles to [B] go.
[N]
[F#]
[A] Thank [F#m] you so much.
