I love her too so much.
[G] Really.
I do appreciate that, Boise.
[Dm] [A] [D]
Oh, [G]
so today, you know, last couple years there seemed to be a lot of this.
Oh, today we lost a musical [D] giant.
[G] [Gm] Glen Campbell passed away, you know.
And you might not think there's a lot in common with Melissa Etheridge and Glen Campbell,
but you would be very mistaken.
Although I [D] never met the man, [G] I did try the last couple years [Gm] of his life.
They were busy years for him.
[G]
But when I was a child growing up in Leavenworth, Kansas, that's where I grew up,
I used to go to my music store, [D]
and there was this [A] brand new kind [Gm] of guitar,
and it was called an Ovesi guitar.
[D]
And the music guy, the owner of the store, [G] he said, I'll show you this guitar.
This guitar here is called the Glen Campbell.
[Bbm]
[Eb] [Ab] Glen Campbell had [Gm] his own guitar.
I was pretty impressed with that, and I said, someday, someday I'll have me an Ovesi,
and it'll be my own.
And I watched his TV shows.
You know, Glen Campbell was [G]
insanely talented.
He was a member of the Beach Boys.
He was at one time, he was the [D] guitar player singing.
Cat, [G] that man, could play the guitar like no one else.
He was [D] amazing.
And he [G] had a voice that would just go forever for days and days.
And he would sing.
And back when I was growing up in the 70s, his TV show was huge.
I used to watch it all the time, and I said, that's what I wanted to do.
And he seemed to be a kind guy.
He seemed to appreciate his audiences, and I learned a lot from that.
I did.
You know, [D]
some of my favorite [Gm] songs in the whole wide world, he sang.
It's true.
There was a [G]
songwriter by the name of Jimmy Webb.
He was just one of the greatest songwriters.
Glen would always do his songs.
Like, MacArthur Park, and, no, nothing like that.
He did, uh, he did the, uh, [Gm] uh, now I can't think of it because I'm playing this in my head.
Galveston, that's what that is.
[D] Jimmy Webb [G] broke MacArthur Park.
Never mind.
Just never mind.
But Glen Campbell, you know, just like Greg Allman last month or so, and those that have gone too soon.
[D]
[G] Music is a sacred art, I believe.
[D] And it's meant to heal, [G] and it's meant to make people feel.
It's meant to take them places that, [D] that just mere words or, [Gm] or actions can, you know.
It's [D] meant to relieve us.
And [G] I found all of those things in Glen Campbell's songs.
So I would like to send Glen Campbell off to his next hill in the sky.
And do one of my all time favorite [D] because I come from Kansas.
And this [G] song was about a town in Kansas, and I thought that just made [D] us all in Kansas famous, you see.
[G]
This song, when [D] Glen would sing it, he would,
[G] he would, he would put so much [D] feeling in it.
You were that man, you were that [G] man driving in the truck, you know.
[D] Down the road,
[G] down in Wichita.
[D] I am a [C] limerick for a county.
[Bm]
[Gm] Dry like a [C]
mornin', [Em] singin' [Bm] in the sun, [A] for another [E] home alone.
I hear you [Em] singin' in the [D] wire.

south, won't ever stand [E] the strain.
And I need [D] you for a little thing.
And I want you [A] for all time.
