Why Michael Jackson Recorded Human Nature Instead Of Toto chords
Start Jamming...
The biggest hit [G] total ever passed on, Steve Piccaro's Human Nature, which was recorded,
of course, by Michael Jackson.
I'm John Bowden from Rock History Music.
[Em] It's the ninth anniversary of Michael Jackson's death.
He died on June 25, 2009.
He was [E] only 50
years old.
This is part [A] two of our conversation with Steve Piccaro talking about Human Nature.
[E] And later, we'll ask him if he's recording a new album.
In our first [Gm] video released a few hours
ago, we asked Steve Piccaro about not being too [D] impressed by Human Nature at first.
To [A] him,
it was just another song.
And then Michael Jackson's producer, Quincy Jones, [C] got a hold of
it.
And the rest is [E] history.
Steve Piccaro co-wrote Human Nature with another award winner, John
Bettis.
Steve also does the [G] synthesizer on the track.
And three [E] other members of [C] Toto appear on
there as well.
David Paich on synthesizer, [Bm] Steve Lugather on guitar, and Steve's late brother,
Jeff [A] Piccaro on drums.
And we should [Dm] point out that these guys are all over this album.
And the fact that Piccaro, Paich, and Lugather also arranged Human Nature.
[A] I've said this a long time, and the boys in the [C#m] band don't necessarily agree because they're
modest, but this is [D] basically Michael Jackson [A] singing lead vocals on a Toto [F#m] song.
But I asked
Steve Piccaro about the history of Human Nature [A] and the band Toto.
[C] Was there ever, I mean, this
[A] should, could have been a [A] Toto song then?
No, actually, Toto [E] heard it.
They kind of passed on
it.
[G] They had heard the same demo that Quincy heard.
Paich helped me on the demo.
Paich played
some string pads, I believe, on the demo for me.
They kind of passed on it.
This is what was so
funny.
And Lugather loves to tell the story.
And the story that they passed on it, and this is
Luke's words now.
They passed on it because they wanted to do more like stadium rock kind of stuff.
[A] You know, they want the band want to do bigger rock and roll.
Stadium rock was the words they
used, why they didn't want to do Human Nature.
And then [C] flash to the Victory Tour.
[D] And
[A] every day
when we're on the road at [C] the time, and wherever the concert was, you know what I mean?
Of course,
the [A] local news crews were there.
[B] And the only song that Michael would allow them [Bm] to video, to film
during the soundtrack [A] for the local news broadcast [D] was Human Nature.
[G] So every, it was [Em] beautiful.
It
was just so poetic where like every, and Luke's the [A] first one to read the reminder about [E] this.
Every town would be watching [G] the local news, seriously.
[D] And on would come Human [Em] Nature being
played in a stadium, [G] you know?
[D] [A] That's nuts.
Human Nature comes [G] up all the time.
And I always [D] say,
though it's not technically right, [A] that that's basically Michael Jackson singing with [C] Toto. Mm-hmm.
You know, I mean, I listen, I know, I know him, but [D] that's my interpretation.
Yeah.
And there was a lot [G] more going on there.
I understand that, but.
Yes.
[B] You're working on another album?
You know, not, not in, not like I'm on the war path.
I'm, I'm starting to gather some material.
You know, I'm starting the process of gathering material.
I want, I want to write a bunch of
new stuff.
I've, I've got [D] in the songwriting department, I got to tell you, I just feel
more inspired.
And I, I honestly [Am] feel like I'm just getting going.
I'm not kidding.
I,
I feel like finally all the equipment is in place.
Now [C] with what all these things do, it's,
[G] it's time for me to put the manuals down and start showing everybody why I got into this stuff in
the first place.
And [C] I, I can't wait to really dig in and just, [F#] I just want to have a bunch of
output.
I want to write a bunch of [G] songs between [A] now and then.
And Toto just released 40 Trips Around the [E] Sun, a remastered Greatest Hits package
with three [G] unreleased tunes.
[B] The band's 2018 40 Trips Around the Sun [E] tour starts on July [G] 30th in
Vancouver, BC, [D] Canada, and [E] wraps up in Lynn, Massachusetts on November [Gm] 17th.
