Why isn't anyone listening to Aries?
[Eb]
[Ab] [Eb] When I make the videos in this [Abm] series, see [Bb] Choker, Roy Blair, [A] Still Woozy,
I make them [Ab] because it seriously frustrates me when talented musicians aren't getting enough attention.
I don't know if there's somebody more deserving of one of these [Abm] videos than Aries.
This is an artist that just dropped his debut album.
He's starting to get more and more recognition by the day, but no matter how much he blows up,
it'll never feel like [Bb] enough because this is [A] a guy that [Eb] gained his following through fun,
educational YouTube videos, and that is amazing to me.
As soon as I found his music,
I found the rest of his YouTube channel, and I am just rooting for this guy so hard now.
We'll talk about his [Db] actual songs, his original stuff in a second,
[Abm] but to help you get as excited about him as I am,
let's take a look through some of his videos.
A lot of his early stuff is pretty much
dissecting the instrumentals from popular songs within around [Eb] two minutes.
I love videos like this.
It sounds dumb,
but I'm always amazed that people are able to recreate [Abm] entire tracks by ear.
Listening to a beat and guessing the different layers is one thing, but to remake the instrumentals so well is another thing entirely.
I obviously love music,
so it makes me super happy when people try and show how truly accessible it is to make your own stuff.
He gets to show off his skills producing, and we all learn how simple it can be to make a great [Eb] beat.
It's a win-win.
If Aries can recreate Magnolia in two minutes, the world is your [B] oyster.
[Gbm] So after a bunch of recreating instrumental videos, Aries started to get a little [Abm] bit more creative.
We have If Migos Was a [Db] Mariachi Band,
[Bb] [Dbm] This is America, But It's Lo-Fi Hip [Bb]-Hop,
[Cm]
[A] and If the Fortnite Dance Went Even Harder, where he uses sound effects from Fortnite to make a beat.
[Dm]
[N] Now that you're fully aware of how great, interesting, and talented Aries is, let's talk about his completely original stuff.
On April 18th, 2019, he released his debut album, Welcome Home.
While it's still listed under hip-hop slash rap,
I think that categorizing him in a certain genre would need a few more slashes.
How about hip-hop slash [Abm] rap slash emo slash indie rock slash alternative slash
I could go on and on forever here.
I think the easiest comparisons you could make for Aries would be musicians like Juice WRLD and Post Malone.
Very generally speaking,
he makes that similar kind of emo rock hip-hop fusion that those two have really taken off with recently.
That being said, and I don't mean any offense to Juice WRLD or Post Malone because I do like some of their stuff,
but the way Aries follows through with this style seems way more genuine and authentic to me.
I think a lot of the difference is in the general tone of an Aries track.
Countless times on this project,
he's able to create this mood that utilizes the elements of that emo rock hip-hop blend that we've been getting so much of lately,
but it ends up feeling a lot happier than most of the songs in that sub-genre.
Whereas Empty by Juice WRLD and Better Now by Post Malone make you feel like you're trapped in your bedroom,
claustrophobic and depressed, screaming out dramatic lyrics,
Santa Monica by Aries makes you feel like you're at the beach and you're going on some adventure.
[E] [A]
[Abm] [Gb] I think that beachy sort of vibe is what makes this artist feel so interesting and special to me.
I don't think there's many people out there that are combining the feelings of Southern California surf [N] rock and trap music
without it feeling super corny at least.
And I don't mean this to seem like a knock on the album,
but the whole project is a really easy listen.
I mean, it's a pretty mellow sound overall.
His voice has a relaxing tone,
it's rare that he's screaming at you or anything, and after a while that rock hip-hop fusion can almost put you in a trance.
Putting this project on is a good way to unwind and de-stress for me.
By the way,
I really enjoy the visuals that go along with the album.
The minimalist cover art for all the singles fit very well,
and we need to bring up these music videos.
Race Car is the track that I played at the start of this video, and the whole thing is just wild.
For someone who got their start on a video streaming platform,
he does not disappoint with this video.
So many fascinating scenes, weird edits, jaw-dropping transitions,
it's a one-of-a-kind visual style, and I really love it.
For the song Bad News,
same sort of praise applies here too.
Really unique, love the clockwork orange homages, and
shout out to those two for making a cameo.
So whether you check him out for his entertaining and informative YouTube videos,
his relaxing and enjoyable debut album, or his music videos that are absolutely to die for,
do me a favor and look up Aries.
He really deserves all the success in the world.
Hey, thank you for watching that video.
Big shout out to Aries, go check out his music, follow him on social and stuff.
