[F] Welcome back, folks.
You know, Whiskey Myers is obviously a very tight outfit.
Her Leroy Powell-produced album Firewater is anchored by Ballad of a Southern Man.
Here are the guys with their take on that song.
Ballad of a Southern Man was actually, [Cm] I guess that was the last song [F] on the album that we actually wrote.
We wrote that in the hotel that we were staying in, you know, when [Ab] we were recording it.
At the [G] studio, we all kind of got together and [F] just felt like it was a song about us, or a story [Ab] that needed to be told.
It was kind of boom, boom, you know, we wrote it and [G] [F] it was on the album like the next day.
So that's kind of how that one went.
It's basically just kind of about how we all grew up and the area we're [G] from.
[D]
My first [A] rifle was a .243
Papa gave daddy and daddy gave to me
They tell my daddy shootin' with a [Em] steady hand
I guess [G] that's something you don't understand
[D] Now I grew up on a prison [G] farm
Just a snake that pulls the shine from a mason jar
[D] We used to go [C] fishin' out on Pickle [Em] Creek
I guess that's something you don't [G] understand
[C] And grandpa's [G] in the kitchen
And papa's [D] done passed out
We'll sit [G] out on the front porch
[Em] Just a-pickin' on a [C] song
And there's blood on [G] the table
Two words for the [D] hell
That's raised [C] in this land
I guess that's something you [G] don't understand
I [D] still fly that southern [G] flag
[Em] And I'm a Wissilea and Dixieland mood [G] brag
I know [D] all the [G] words to [Em] simple man
I guess that's something you [G] don't understand
And I pledge my allegiance the [A] original [G] way
Just to say and bear a crystal sign happy holidays
I can't change my ways I know [Em] who I am
I guess that's something you [G] don't understand
[C] And [G] grandpa's in the kitchen
And papa's done [D] passed out
[C] We'll sit out on [G] the front porch
Just a-pickin' on [C] a song
And there's blood [G] on the table
Two words for the [D] hell
That's raised [C] in this land
I [D] guess that's something you don't [G]
understand
So [A] [Bb] grandpa's [F] sippin' on pink machine
[C]
And it's [G] all on the same leaf
[Bb] The [F] holy dollar and [C] old credit card
[Bb] They got away to a place
[C]
No [G] bank is gonna steal from me
[D] They wanna tear it all in
And grandma's in the [G] kitchen
And papa's done [D] passed out
[C] We'll sit out on [G] the front porch
Just a-pickin' on [C] a song
And there's a popper [G] on the table
Two playa for [D] the hell
That's a matter of [C] some kind
[Em] I [D] guess that's something you don't [G] understand
Now
[E] my first rifle was a [Em] .243
Papa gave daddy and [D] daddy [G] gave me
