Yes, I read all my comments, so go ahead and post a comment on this video and let me know
what I'm screwing up.
And [Abm] also, I see you guys telling me I should make a hi-hat out of two gongs.
[Ab]
[Abm] Do you guys understand how expensive that is to buy two gongs and then ruin them by
drilling holes in the [Gb] center?
I'm not gonna do it.
[Bb]
Okay Eric, you've had your [F] chance.
You've let everybody down, [B] including myself.
[Ab] So now it's my turn to step in.
[Em] Was that a little dramatic?
[Eb] [Am]
[D]
[A] Someone bought a paper towel.
[D] Any [A] guesses what's inside [D] here?
[A]
[Am] [D] [A]
[Am] Oh my god.
[D] [A]
[Gb] [G]
[F] [E]
[D] [Am]
[A] Was that a gong?
[Gbm]
That's [E] okay, it's just a gong.
[F] No big deal.
[C] Can't make a set of gong [D] hats with only one gong.
[Am]

[Am] [D]
[A] Now [Am] we're talking.

[D] [Am]
Wait a [B] [Gb]
[A] minute,
[F] that's a gong hi-hat.
[E]
Let's go.
Let's go.
Yep, that's [Gb] me.
You're probably wondering [Bb] how I ended up in this situation [N] and who the heck this guy is.
Well, that's Tony G.
We went to school together and he's my go-to guy for whenever I create
some ridiculous and crazy drum contraption.
[Am] Anyways, the gong hi-hat is something that [Db] you guys have been [B] requesting in the comment
section of my last [Dm] 42 videos for like 7 months and now we're [A] finally here at David's and
we're gonna make them.
So I'll let him explain what we're actually doing.
[G] Well, obviously we're making a set of gong hi-hats so we need two gongs.
I first found this [D] one which is 31 inches and I got it for a decent price since there's
a dent in it.
Looks like someone stepped on it maybe.
So I got that one thinking I would have to hold onto it forever until I found another
one for a fair price and was worthy of drilling a hole into but then like a week later I found
this one on Facebook so I immediately had to buy [Am] it.
This one's some old Zildjian thing.
It's 26 [C] inches and it looks like it was cracked at some point [C] and then repaired but it already
has a center hole in it so it's perfect.
But the big boy gong doesn't have a hole in it so we first need to find the center.
I set my dividers to [D] roughly the center of the gong and then went around the whole thing
to approximate [F] the center.
That's approximately the center.
Then we just drilled a pilot hole and switched to a step bit which is great for drilling
bigger holes in cymbals or sheet metal or in this case gongs.
We [Eb] drilled it out to a half inch and then used an even [Bb] larger step bit just to clean
up [Fm] the edges so they weren't [Eb] sharp.
[E] [F]
[C] [F] [Eb]
And now the hi-hat stand.
Probably the most important part of this project yet none of us put any thought into it before
we showed up.
We just kinda hoped a regular stand would do the job.
First we tried an iron cobra stand but even with the tension maxed out it was still too
heavy and the weight of the gong bottomed out the pedal.
It's too [F] thick.
The gong is too thick.
Then we tried this cheap Yamaha stand and it was kinda better but it still sucked.
[N]
The gong is too thick.
But to make it suck less we added a spring but then the spring was too long and the gongs
wouldn't close all the way.
So then we added a bunch of washers and felts to act as [Db] spacers and what do you know it
kinda works now.

Big thanks to Eric and Tony for coming by to be a part of this.
Eric's channel is linked down below so you can go harass him to make some other crazy thing now.
Also shout out to the OG commenter from Eric's channel.
I tried to find who it was but there were too many comments and too many videos.
So please make yourself present so we can give you the praise you deserve because without
you none of this would have happened.
So thanks for watching.
This was a fun one.
Who knows what we'll do next.
