It's like really practical.
I can follow a set of instructions
and end up at an end result.

which is [C] giant unknown the entire [D] time.

I mean, this is the stuff that everybody hates.
This is pure [C] gluten.
Especially like the [G] past couple of years,
[C] just making this new record and writing all these songs
and just sort of like always trying to like
rely on my brain to come up with things
that don't exist yet.
But it's nice to do this really basic task
that makes the house smell nice.
And I can like accomplish something
and hold it in my hands is like loaf of bread.
Which of course I'll get to do that
when the album's done.

are people gonna like this bread?
People are just gonna love the bread
because it's delicious.
You put butter on it and it tastes good.
Whereas when you make an album, who knows?

So I don't know if you remember
what the dough [G] looked like before,
but now it should be nice and big and kooky.

The album is about many things,
but I feel like [Bm] We Are The Reckoning,
that song kind of [E] sums up the general sense of the album.
I feel like albums are always these snapshots
of time [D#] and place.
You're capturing a [B] year or two or three in your [D] life
and you're like, boom, there's a stamp of that.
And then you move on [Am] to the next one.
[Bm] And sort of the stamp of the past few years for me
is [E] kind of [G]
coming of age.
The sort [D] of youthful [A] idealism [E] has evolved.
[A] But I [Bm] never want it to [B] break or to go away.
I never [E] wanna be broken by the frustration
[F#] or the [D]
challenges of life.
I think it's okay [E] to realize [F#m] that they're there,
but I [E] wanna go [C#] in and stay [D] positive.
Look at these babies.
Wow.
[G#] I had this paranoia that they weren't gonna rise
just because we're here filming them,
but they've actually risen better
[F#] than I could have anticipated.
So I'm gonna bake them now.
Wow, they're beautiful.
The first goal that I [C#] set was to not rush,
to not make it because there was a deadline
or because it was time to make another record,
but to make the album once I felt like
I really had something worth making.
I set myself a goal of writing [F] over 50 songs.
And then I also did a lot of co-writing.
It went a minute and a half.
I'm excited.
It smells really good in here.
Too bad you don't have [A] smell-o-vision

[A] because this would go viral just from the smell factor.
The original impetus to do something different
on this album actually came from my manager
who said, you need to shake things up.
I try to be somebody that is open to learning
and is kind of not shut down.
And so he felt strongly about it.
And as much as [D] it felt uncomfortable,
[G]
[F#m] I also know that that uncomfortable feeling
is often the ticket to [A]
progress.
And when you feel afraid or you [N] have that sense of,
ah, I don't know, sometimes you should follow that
and see where it takes you.
