Well, I'm just glad to be here tonight and I want to tell you a few things before we go on.
I'm from Houston, Texas.
I live in Texas.
Any Texans here?
Thank you.
Texans are unusual people.
They're very proud of their state and
sometimes they're, well, sometimes they're just downright arrogant about it.
But no, we live in Houston.
We've been there for about five years.
I have two children.
I live up in the northwest corner of town with my two sons, Neil,
he's 10 and Adam is seven.
And I love them very much.
And I'm also married.
I got married first
and the Lord said that that was good.
My wife is here with me tonight.
Her name is Lynn.
And
I love my family very much.
I tell people a lot that I don't know anybody else but Jesus.
I would
spend this many nights away from home for.
Little kids are interesting.
They bring things home from
school for you.
They bring little pictures that they've painted at school and they proudly present
them to you and say, Daddy, I made this for you at school today.
Thank you, honey.
What is it?
I don't know.
I just made it for you.
We've got stuff like that over houses,
all over the doors and everywhere.
And you can look at those things in a couple of different
ways.
They are things that, you know, when guests are coming, I sometimes ask my wife, honey,
can we kind of lose this picture that's on the door?
I mean, there are people coming over
and we never do.
They just stay there for all the world to see.
And that's OK.
I [Eb] like that.
[Dbm] [N] There are things that our kids bring us because they love us and they sometimes get on my nerves
and they annoy me.
And I think, man, I don't want this here.
And then I think there's another
reason they bring them to me.
They bring me stuff because I think sometimes they want to say,
excuse me, Daddy, excuse me, I got something to tell you.
I know you're busy and they stick this
thing on the door.
Excuse me.
This is here to remind you that I'm here.
Don't forget about me.
Oh, and one other thing, time out.
Excuse me.
If there's something you want to teach me about
the God that you say you love and serve and have given your life to, I got to tell you,
you better tell me now because I am going to be gone before you know [Dbm] it.

[Abm]
[Ab]
[Db] There are [Abm] watercolor [Ab]
poems [Gb] on [Dbm] my refrigerator [B] [Bm] door.
[E]
[A] And the shape of [E] something [Abm] I [Gbm] don't really
[Ab]
recognize.
[Db] [Ab]
[Db] Brushed with [Dbm] careful [Abm] little [Ab] fingers and [Dbm] put proudly [Abm]
on display.
[Bm] [E]
[A] A reminder [Abm] to us all [Gbm]
[Ab] of how [Db]
[Dbm] time [Abm] flies.
[Ab]
Seems [Dbm] an endless mound [Ab] of [Am] laundry
And [Dbm] a stairway [B] laced with [Bm] [E] toys [A] gives a blow [Abm] by blow [Gbm] reminder [Db] of the war.
[Ab] That we [Db] [Dbm] fight for [Abm] their well [Ab]-being, [Am] [Dbm] for their greater [B] understanding.
[E] [Ab] To [A] impart [Abm] a holy [Gbm] reverence [Ab]
[Db] for the Lord.
And baby, what will we [Ab] do when [Bb] it comes [Bbm] back to [Fm] me and you?
They [Gb] look [Db] a little [Abm] less like [Ebm] little [Ab] boys every [Db] day.
[Ab] [Db]
But the pleasure of watching the [Ab] children grow [Bbm] is mixed with a [Abm] bitter [Fm]
cup of knowing [Gb] the [Db]
watercolor [Eb] [Gb]
ponies
are [Ab] gone [Db] one
[Gb] [Ab] day.
[Db] [Ab]
[Db] [A] And the vision [B] can get so [A] narrow [B] as you [E] veer through [Abm]
your tiny [E] world.
[B]
And little [Abm] [B] victories can go [E] by [B] with no
[Dbm] [B] applause.
[E]
[B] But in [Dbm] the greater evaluation, when they [Abm] fly from your nest of love,
may [Gbm] they mount up [Abm] with wings as [Eb] eagles [Db] for his cause.
[Ab]
Oh, [Db] [Abm]
[Db] still [Ab]
I [Db] wonder baby what we're gonna [Ab] do [Bb] when it [Gb] comes back to me [F] and you.
[Ab] [Gb] They look [Db] a little [B] less like [Ebm] little [Ab] ones every [Db] day.
[Ab] [Db] But the pleasure of watching [Ab] the children grow [Bbm] is mixed with a [Ab] bitter [Fm] cup of knowing [Gb] the [Db]

are gone one [Db] day.
[Ab] One day.
[Db] One day they will rise [Ab]
up [Db] [Dbm]
