It is my pleasure to welcome to the program, me plus you, on Viva Radio, Wang Chung.
Unbelievable.
Insert crowd noise.
[N] Wow.
I keep saying it, wow.
I'm going to say it again.
Welcome.
Thank you so much.
Thank you for having us.
For being here.
It's great to be here.
Introduce yourselves, everybody here.
Well, I'm Jack Hughes.
Jack Hughes.
I'm Nick Feldman.
Two of the major, yeah.
Yeah, Wang and Chung.
Which one are you?
He's Chung, I'm Wang.
Jack is Chung.
Nick.
Okay.
Yes.
And over here, on the percussion.
I'm Tom Arnold.
I'm Tom Arnold.
All right.
[Abm] And over on keyboards.
I'm Paul Birchall on piano, thank you.
Now, I'm curious, with the song Dance Hall Days, Jack, you had, I actually read a quote that said that you were actually inspired by the band Little Feet.
On the vocal stylings, it says, [E] and you had just read Habakkaf's Lolita.
Yeah.
And the central character, Dolores Hayes, and Dance Hall Days rhyme.
Yeah.
And it's all mixed up in there.
It is all mixed up in there, yeah.
I wouldn't be able to disentangle it particularly.
But yeah, those things were all sort of connected up.
And yeah, Little Feet is a band that Nick and I loved.
When Nick said, you know, that we had this, we liked American music as well as UK music.
Right.
Little Feet were one of those bands.
Even now, I don't think they're as respected in the UK as they are here, and certainly as much as they should be, you know.
Yeah.
But we were huge fans.
And I just think it's this sort of, it's just the guitar [G] voicings, you know, with [Bb]
Little Feet, Lyle Georgie Hedewaere playing a G [A] chord [Ab] that's just like open fifths like that.
[C] And [Gm] those [N] chords there, there's a, in my head, there's a sort of relationship between those.
Well, they had a nice bouncy sort of percussion too, which was.
That's right, yeah.
Yeah, and that sort of shuffle feel as well.
Yeah.
It was kind of like almost a funk thing in a way.
In fact, somebody said it was the first hip-hop record, but that's probably going a bit far.
Really?
I think that sounds pretty good.
