Vinnie Colaiuta // "Blushda" Fill Breakdown chords
Start Jamming...
Hey, my name is Tim Buell.
Today I'm going to talk about one of my favorite fills called
the Blasda.
This is the Blasda.
[N]
Crazy, right?
This fill, I think, started with Vinnie Calluta,
and he's the best person to
If you want to really see someone play the Blasda, you
should go watch Vinnie Calluta play it, because it's his thing.
But here you have me, so we're
going to hear me talk about it.
So the Blasda is awesome, and the other person I kind of
picked this up from is Todd Sukerman.
He's amazing too.
If you don't know who he is,
go figure out who he is.
Todd Sukerman, Vinnie Calluta.
It's a left flam, [A]
so the left hand
is the accent,
[F#] and then it's a right-right-left.
[C] [F#] [E]
[A] [C]
[F#] So, the secret to playing this fill cool,
and I think musically, is for it to not sound like this.
[B]
That sounds a little vanilla.
The
secret is really in the left hand, because when you start speeding this up, [E]
[G#] when you
speed it up and take away your right hand, you're left with this kind of shuffle thing
in the left hand.
[G#]
That's super cool.
That's the secret to it.
When you play it, you want
to maintain that kind of shuffle element.
And then the other cool thing about this is
once you get the feel of,
[C]
[E] you can start doubling up.
So,
[A] what is that?
You're just throwing
in flams.
[A#]
And I just kind of guess around with it until I come around to beat one.
At
some point I probably practice specific things, but I would just say put on a metronome that's
giving you one, two, three, and four, and play this fill, and just start adding in.
[C]
[C#]
And be loose with [F#] it.
Be loose, and [A] those flams are wide.
[B]
It's almost like two hits,
but it's not.
It is a flam, but [N] a wide flam.
So, have fun.
