20 awards, 20 grannies, [D#] and sold over 26 body [C] albums.
MCA makes you huge [E] stars, especially the [D#] call of haters.
My buddy, Vince.
[N]
Surprised to be back, happy [D#] to see you.
[B] Truth be told, I came last year and I'd spent [N] 23 years with MCA Records and UMG Universal Records.
I love that relationship and I came in last year and just said, you know,
my contract's done over [D] there [E] and there was no weirdness, there was no,
and all of a sudden I [D] see on the, everywhere [C#] they're talking about it, this and that,
they split up and I said, man, all that happened, the [B] contract ran out.
And the neatest thing happened, Mike Duncan, [B] after he took over, [F#] called me up and he said,
hey, [D]
[F#] I want to make a record with you.
I said, done, so [D] I'm back.
[C#]
[A] I'm racking my brain for what [D] to sing.
I've been doing this for nearly 40 years and pick one song to come and sing and I,
[F#] I don't really know what to do right now.
[G] I don't have a new record yet, [D] I'm going to start soon, [A#] but I will be going for Ants Tuesday.
[F#]
I know that one.
[E]
I guess only Friends [D] records, no.
But [G] I came to the conclusion that this might be the most [B] appropriate thing to sing today
and I want to do [D] it because this is a holy place.
This place was built as a tabernacle over 100 years ago and it's [D] a [A]
very revered and holy place.
And I want to do this song in remembrance of Sweet Mindy McCready.
She was a mess.
She had a struggle in life like most people don't even imagine.
And I didn't know her well.
I thought it really appropriate that I [A#] sing a song for her.
[D] She was part of the history of country music in Alabama.
[G] [D]
[A]
I know your life, on earth, strong.
[G] Don't want to hear that [D]
good old day.
When we're free, faith and love.
You were [A] no stranger [B]
[D] to me.
Who lives highly on that starry moon on earth's dove?
Won't you [G] wait [D] for a shadow?
Love for the [A] father and the son.
Oh how they cried the day you left us.
[D] Gathered round your grave to grieve.
I could see [G]
the [D] angels' faces.
[A] Lay with your [D] sweet voice.
Who lives highly on that mountain?
[E] So pure [D] and lay on [A] [D] earth's dove.
Won't you wait [Gm] [D]
for a shadow?
[G] Love for the father [A]
[D] and the son.
