Hello everybody, here we are [C] once again.
My name is Victor Wooten and [Bb] I'm here at Wooten Woods in Tennessee where we're actually having [E] a camp here, the Spirit of Music Camp.
And I just got a little chance to take a little break so that I can shoot this video and share a secret with you.
This is a secret just between you and [Bb] me, okay?
This is a way to get a [Gb] pitch style harmonica like a guitarist, but it's much easier.
All you have to do is go to the drugstore, buy a little hair tie, slip it over [E] the edge of your instrument, your bass, right?
And then what I'm going to do is I'm going to play normal, right?
[A]
[C] [E] Normal stuff, that doesn't matter.
But the key is this.
Take the hair tie up the neck.
I'm going to [B] put it right around the 17th fret, but the key is to put it right on top of the [E] fret so that you get a harmonic.
Okay, now to make it pop out you got to do what the guitars do and get a distortion pedal.
So I'm going to turn on some distortion.
And without doing anything I'm getting a [Am] harmonic.
But that's not the [G] coolest part.
Now you just have [E] to play normal notes.
[B]
[E] [D]
[Gb]
It just [Bb] pops out, right?
I'm not doing it with my hands.
This little 25 cent hair tie from the drugstore is doing all the [B] work for me.
[D] And if I [G] wanted to get a different note to pop out, I just move the hair tie one way.
So now [Am] instead of this note, [Eb] [C]
[D] [Gb] [A] right?
[E] Just like the guitars do.
[A] Now we can have just as much fun.
[D] Just so you know I'm using a [F] tenor bass right now, [D] ADGC, just to get a little [E] bit more clarity on the upper [G] end.
But anyway, there you go, [C] there you have it.
This is the technique that I used on the song [F] Sword and Stone [E] on both versions on my new new record.
[D] This is what I used to play the song.
So check it out, I hope you like it.
And remember, keep this between you and me.
[Bb]
[Cm] Bye.
