[Em] Hi, I'm Vance Joy.
I'm at Bear Creek [N] Studios in the Treehouse and I'm discussing a few
of the songs that I was able to record here with Ryan Hadlock, who's the producer here.
[G] [Am] I guess the first song [Eb] [Bb] we'll talk about is a song called [Em] Mess Is Mine.
Is there a story behind Mess Is [N] Mine, that song, or is it just kind of a lot of really
nice words you like together?
It is a bit like a lot of nice words, like all the songs, but the idea behind the song
was just relationships and how they're messy and complicated, but that's when you know
what's real and it's a real thing that you [G] take on a bit of that baggage when you're
in a relationship with someone.
[Am] So [Abm] it's one of the more heartfelt songs and I [G] think the production as well is really powerful
and moments and tender and really nice balance of epic moments with a sensitive, smooth kind of [Em] touch.
[C] [G]
[C] [G] [C]
[G] [C] [G]
[Em] Talking like [C] we used [G] to do, it was always me and you.
[Em] Shaping up [C] and shipping [G] out, check me [C] in and [G] check me out.
Do you like [C] walking [G] in the rain?
[Em] When you think of love, [C] do you [G] think of pain?
You can tell [C] me [G] what you see, [Em]
well I will [C] choose what [G] I believe.
Well hold [C] on, darling, this body is yours, this body is yours and [G]
mine.
Well hold on my [C]
darl, this mess was yours, now your [Em] mess is mine.
[G]
[Em] [C] [G]
Oh, [C] [G]
[Em] your [C] [G] mess is mine.
See you in the marketplace, [Em] walking [C] around at [G] 8am.
[Em] I got two [C] hours [G] before my flight, [Em] lock [C] me on [G] my side tonight.
[Em]
You're the [A] reason that [C] I feel [G] so strong, [Em] the reason that [C] I'm hanging [G] on.
You know you gave me all that [Em] time, well did [C] I give you [G] enough of mine?
Well hold [C] on, darling, this body is yours, this body is yours.
I kind of walked around that first day and was trying to find a few links in the song
and [G] the line up, this mess was yours, now your mess is mine, actually I [C] wrote that first day.
This mess was yours, now your [Em] mess is mine.
[C] [G] [Em] [G]
Your mess is mine.
The song started with a bridge, [C] which is [G] Bring Me To Your House.
[Em] Bring me to [C] your house, tell [G] me you're sorry for [D] the mess, yeah I [Em] don't mind.
I wrote that on piano [C] like 5 years ago, separately, [G] and then I had this guitar riff that [D] I really loved.
You gave me all that [Em] time, [C]
[G] well you still make sense to [D] me, your mess is mine.
[G] Your mess is mine.
[C] [G] [Em]
[C] This [G] body's yours and this body's mine.
